I saw somebody doing this kind of auto where you start the auto downwind and then make a wide 180 arc so that you can land upwind.
No problem... I gave it a try with the Hawk. After a few mild successes I decided to make my landings more spot-on. Well, this last one came around and just when I had it where I wanted it, the blades stopped. Yeah, it was my own dang fault, but I have 30ft of altitude to flip the switch and bail out.
Click
bog. bog.. bog...
The blades weren't spinning up (too much pitch for the motor to overcome) and I have just 10 ft left. I know I'm too late, but I pull down the collective. I'm thinking that there is no way I can recover now.
Maybe one foot off the ground I decide to use whatever headspeed I have to cushon the blow.
Slam! Puff.
The heli hits the ground. Everybody saw it. The groans of simpathy were just about to start.
Whirrrrrr.
The heli launches back into the air, undamaged. The crowd cheers!
