View Full Version : Main gear screws not holding

The two small screws on the main gear that keep the main gear from turning on the shaft are not holding. In fact they may even be stripped a bit as I've carefully tried tightening them to no avail.

So little plastic on the shaft to hold a screw very well. Any suggestions as to how to hold the shaft tight enough to fly??

Is this the collar you're talking about?

If so, the screws thread into the metal collar, so I'm not quite sure what you mean about the plastic.

The screws go thru the collar, thru the plastic and squeeze the main shaft. The screws I found out would stop partway thru the plastic and just barely touch the flat spot on the mainshaft. So it finally slipped and not wanting to really strip things out which I commonly do, over tightening. Thinking its toast anyway I really troqued down on the screws and moved them about another quarter turn. Enough to put some pressureon the mainshaft itself. I'll still have to order a spare because the groove worn into the plastic isn't going to last all that long.

Thx.

Hmmm, the screws must be too short. They should thread into the collar, pass through the holes in the plastic gear and tighten against the flat spots on the shaft.

If you look at the stickies above there is a post with lots of close-up pics showing the way it should look.

Its very possible they were to short cause it took a bit of torque to really get them to seat properly..And the heads are right up against the collar tight. Like I said I'm notorious at over tightening so I was trying to be careful. These little helis can't take the torque wrenches, no matter how you beat them.

I'm going to leave things as is for now cause I can fly but I will have to order a replacement. When that comes in I'll def put some longer screws in, then I can work on stripping the alum collar... :)

I think it was made on a monday....
