View Full Version : Cyclic Pitch Settings Boggling Me?

Checked my Trex 500 yesterday for pitch and cyclic. I used the swash leveling tool to remove interactions at full positive and negative. Used the zero alignment pitch tool to get my swash at zero degrees, zero pitch. The question I have is my DX7 defaults on the swash are 60 ale, 60 elev, and 60 pitch. The aileron at 60 gave me 6 degrees of cyclic. The 60 elevator gave me 7 degrees of cyclic. So I had to adjust it to 50. for 12 degrees of pitch, I had to use 70. Is it acceptable to have a span of 10 from your aileron and elevator?

Thanks,
Ken

Sure. None of my swash mixes are the same. You set 'em to dial in whatever pitches you want.

Thanks, I am itching to get this helicopter in the air and didn't want to miss any fine details.

Thanks,
Ken

Here's a good one to check before you spool up. Tail Rotor servo and gyro direction!! We see DOZENS of "my helicopter spins uncontrollably...." posts each month and I'd be willing to bet money these folks just hooked it up, saw tha it was making parts move and spooled up.

For the TR. Move the stick full right while watching the TR blades. The trailing edge of the blades should move right.

For the Gyro. Put the heli in front of you, nose to your right, TR to you left. Now pull the boom towards you. The pitch slider should move away from you. If it moves towards you, it's going the wrong way. You'll need to reverse the gyro. It's usually a switch on the gyro itself.
Good luck!

Thanks, I checked the Tail for proper direction and control. So far so good. I used a paper under my heli on my tile floor with the main blades removed. This helps the heli slide on the floor to turn based on the transmitter inputs. Checked out just fine. Thanks for the tip.

Thanks,
Ken

we also see tons of my heli bobs in normal, and my heli nods at low headspeed. so make sure you run pretty aggressive throttle curves on this thing to avoid nod due to low headspeed.

one thing i've found to be the case on more than a couple of JR/Spectrum programs:

enable the swash expo

with it inhibited i was getting non-symmetrical readings; i.e. i'd get 0° at midstick, symmetrical collective pitch, but assymetrical cyclic pitches. i'd end up chasing my tail trying to get them the same both postive and negative. but, once i enabled swash expo everything lined back up (i did have to go back and adjust all 3 of the swash settings again--but they were symmetrical)
