This is my first build, after trying an Axe CP - I decided to jump on this HDX kit, and I dont see much info for newbies that gives a begginers view of the whole deal...

First of all, I purchased a kit without any electronics
Then I purchased

Maxwell digital servo's
E-Sky Gyro
Dynam 40A ESC with a 3800kv outrunner motor & 13t pinion
DX6 radio with AR6000 reciever
3x 11.1v lipo's
I already owned a lipo charger as I race touring car's

I purchased align flybar weights as my kit did not inculde any.
I also purchased align 335mm pro woodies.

Right now I have built the frame, tail & head (head was not pre-assembled as instructions stated)
tonight I installed the cyclic servo's & set-up the head & radio.

This was the most satisfying part so far, to see the swashplate move as it is supposed to, and to watch the swash stay level through its entire travel, and see that my pitch was almost spot on from the get-go.

Working from the finless DVD that was included with the kit (no printed manual)
the kit he built is obviously an earlier version, his head was also fully assembled with linkages - so I had a hard time figuring those out.

I wasnt happy with the linkages in the kit, so I picked up a set of align links, and built with those....

My opinion of the kit is this.
The quality is very good, the only things stopping me frm saying excellent is the lack of current instruction manual, and a few very small misalignment issues, but I guess with any kit you need to file, glue, or otherwise mess with.
The heli is fairly easy to build, its not like building an r/c car.. a little more advanced, and when you get to the servo install and setup it gets pretty intense.
But very rewarding.

I am quite proud of what I have acheived so far, and I really hope that more people will consider this heli.

I also hope that my lack of budget wont hurt my ability to fly it, I will eventually get some good servo's and a good gyro.

OK here is part 2...

Final Specs (I changed some stuff)
3x Maxwell Digital Cyclic Servo's
Logitech 2100t Gyro
Futaba S3153 Tail Servo
Align 35XL 3700kv with 11t Pinion
Align 35A ESC
External BEC
Align 335 Pro Woodies
Align 220mm Flybar
Align Control Rod Set

About 30 minutes ago I finally got my Gyro & DX6 to talk and play nice.
After reading the half english, half japanese manuals about 30 times, it finally clicked....
I spun up the heli on the kitchen floor in rate mode & made adjustments to stop the drift, switched it over to tail lock mode & woooohooooo - sticks like glue.

I spun up to 50% before switching to idle-up, my throttle curves put those points at 65% and 80% throttle - both at zero pitch at mid stick.

On that subject, do everything you can on the bench to set your pitch correctly, and get a swash leveling tool.
When I first spun up & checked the blade tracking - it was spot on - the blur was the exact thickness of one blade.
no vibrations - beautiful thing to see.

And the feelings of joy when I switched to HH and it stuck - it was sweet.

My overall feelings so far - the $700ish I have in the 450 is well worth it.
I have well over $2000 in my R/C touring car and it never gave me the feeling of pride & accomplishment that I felt this evening.

NOTE - Everyone MUST go out & buy then build a Heli - it is worth it.
