View Full Version : Tail waggle in high speed right hand turn

Hi,
My 500 3d is flying great, but I am getting a tail waggle (or at least what sounds exactly like a tail waggle) when I am in a high speed right hand turn.
It happens particularly when I use a bit much rudder and not enough aileron, so I get a slightly skidded turn.
Is this normal? Am I just reaching the limit of the tail rotor's authority, or do I need to adjust something?
Setup is below, and I am using Radix 95mm tail blades.
Thanks,
Ant

Check for binding.

You have huge tail blades for the 500. maybe reduce your gain or take it in a hole on the servo horn. I have K&B 85mm's on my 500 and the piro rate is insane, so I think the 95's are overkill.

I'm running 95s on mine and they work great. I'd definately reduce the gain.
95 are fine!
deffo reduce the gain though

Thanks everybody,
Jeremy, when I set up originally I was very careful to check for no binding, so theoretically this shouldn't be a problem, but I should check it again anyway. Thanks.
James, I forgot I actually have the 92mm Radix. They seem to be working fine (as did the stock blades)
I think I'll try turning down the gain a little bit and see what happens.

Remember too that the CF Radix blades are going to be stiffer and bite more air than the plastic stock blades. So even if they are the same diameter your gain will probably change. I lowered mine quite a bit when going from the plastics to the Radix 95s

Thanks Big Fil,
It doesn't help that I don't really understand what 'gain' is, other than I know if you want to set it as high as possible without getting tail wag in FFF (or, it now appears also in high speed right hand turns). I didn't realise that stronger tail blades needed less gain.
Thanks,

Not mainly stronger, but "larger" surfaced tr blades. Generally on the 611 I found the 90mm MAH worked best for being the largest, after that I had to dial gain down to lower than 33% on the display, I can not remember exact number but I think it might have been between 27-30%, let us know your final if you so chose to run the 95mm tails.

Thanks Shawn,
I think I'll try the stock blades again for a while, and maybe order some Mah 90's to try in the future.

No need to not use your radix blades. Just lower the gain till the tail is not chirping through hard turns. Remember that your not losing anything by having lower gain settings. Actually your better off when you can lower gain and have it hold.

OK, Thanks
