So i bought the Custom Heli Parts zero degree tool from readyheli a while back and just got around to trying it out today. I assembled it and have one piece left over. I dunno where this thing goes.

So, that spare piece aside, I'm adjusting swash links to find mid-range of travel for future purposes and being very careful not to push the swash down on the tool using the transmitter. Well I pushed the stick down too far as I was finishing up and the slightest puff of smoke emerges from my Jazz 80-6-18. I waited a bit and reconnected the battery and all servo's and gyro seem to be operating normal. I haven't tried hooking the motor up and spooling it up just yet.
You guys think this esc is toast?
And what about the spare piece of the zero degree tool? any ideas?

Most times with any electronics if you release any of the test smoke....it fails the test somewhere in it's stated abilities:shock:

With heli's, there is only realism.

The thing with Kontroniks, I dont have a clue why they do this, But they use CRAZY GLUE to glue the heatsink on the Mosfets, and the Large inductor used for the BEC.
If you strianed the BEC, the inductor get really hot,. so that smoke may be just some CRAZY GLUE Burning.
What I done to my Kontroniks, I boosted the BEC to 5.9 volts, and removed all the crazy glue and used the proper material for heatsink to mosfet usage that allows proper heat transfer.
Seeing your in Las Vegas, and If by chance you did smoke the BEC in the Kontroniks,
your more than welcome to come over my place, and I will repair it for you, and reomve the crazy glue and apply the right stuff on your heatsink.. and will reshrink it for you. n/c.
IM me if needed.

anthony,
i hooked up a multimeter to the pos and neg pins on my receiver and i'm reading 4.89 volts with a pack connected to the esc. while under a servo load the esc is getting a lot warmer than usual. normally after i fly a pack and land, the esc is barely warm. right now its definately warmer than after flying.
sounds to me like you're right that maybe the glue that attaches the heatink burned off and now the heatsink isnt able to perform its function correctly.
i'll p.m. you.

got it torn down and both boards apart and cleaned up. removed all the glue from the heatsinks and the mosfets. inspected and found the problem at the bec.

That's not the answer. He is asking what the extra piece is.
Chuck,
I don't know what it is for either. But why don't you e-mail ReadyHeli about it and let us know.

hell, i dunno what way it even goes on the heli. if i place it on the bearing block (paralled with the heli) its like its a perfect fit (the tool is the perfect width). it can also go on the tops of the frames (perpindicular to the heli).
funny thing is that i don't even need this damn thing and i'm kicking myself that i even bought it! i already burned up a $225.00 jazz!!
let's see what readyheli says

The whole tool goes over the frame from side to side. But I have noticed the thickness is about 1,5-2mm to short. I only bought it for the correct size. I have not been able to get 0 degree with it. We are going to make our own.

Boudewijn,
I am fully aware of that piece. This is what the guy in the last post said.
There are two tools, one goes between the swash and the frame for zero pitch, and the one that looks like a trident, goes on top of the swash for leveling, the three points touch the ball mounts. It was a topic of discussion at the field Sunday and got rave reviews.

Hi,
Thanks for notice. :) I have read it again but that is not the tool he is talking about. The trident tool is not the piece that was included with his tool. In the post you mentioned they are talking about two different tools.
Zero Degree Tool (from ReadyHeli)
Swashplate Leveling Tool (from Trueblood Engineering or others)

LOL! BIG DUH ON ME! Sorry for the mis information...
Kinda wierd though on Readyhelis site they dont show that piece in the picture...
It probally was a piece of scrap that fell in the box, at Readyheli.. :P
Cause I have no clue what that piece can actually do..... but only to confuse us....
Chuck are you sure you did not bring that home from work?

a note on the swash leveler's....the trueblood actually touches the swashplate itself.
i originally bought a leveler from helidirect that sits on the ball links which is garbage in my opinion since the ball links have excess flash on top of them which defeats the purpose of having a machined tool to accurately perform its function.
