Howdy folks,

I tried flying helis back when i was a kid (mid 80's). I only got tail-in hovering down before I wrecked the thing trying to get fancy. The cost of rebuilding was out of my means, and I was forced out of the hobby.

Wanting to scratch that 20 year old itch, I started reading up on the hobby again. Wow, it's incredible how much everything has evolved since then.

I'm particularly interested in getting a simulator to start off. GreatPlanes RealFlight G3 is the one I'm looking at. It comes with either mode 1 or mode 2 controllers. Which one is most used today by you heli pilots?

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Most of us here in the US from what I have seen fly Mode 2. I think Dean (Bonsai) and the guys he flys with in Kuwait also fly mode 2. Get whatever the people who will be helping you learn to fly are flying. Congrats on gettign back into flying!!

Mode 1 has the Throttle and Aileron on the right stick. The Elevator and Rudder are on the left stick.

Mode 2 has the Aileron and Elevator, the two main controls, on the right stick. The Throttle and Rudder are on the left stick.
