Flew Shannons ion-x today. Very impressive, loads of power and very very smooth. Had a blast flying it today. Equal to or maybe even more than a 90. From first lift off trimmed right and set up perfect:o That video of the first flight is pretty impressive. If you have one or order one, you will have fun!

Shannon,
After the 12 minutes of flying did you notice how much maH's it took to recharge the LiPo's??
Thanks - jon

The batts are charging right now-- the first 7600 pack took 7700mah  I hope this is OK-- I am really glad I didn't hover for another 30-60 sec.
The second pack is just finishing up--looks like 7700mah also.
No signs of any damage- I will let you know if I find later that the packs are not up to snuff.

cuttin' it pretty close - as long as you don't get those packs below 3v per cell you should be okay. I generally check voltage on my packs between flights just like with a receiver pack just to make sure where they are at.
do you know if you can program the cutoff voltage to the hacker ESC that comes with this to 30v? would be a nice safety feature.

BTW, the videos were great!
My two ION's should be here wed this week and hopefully I'll have batteries packs by the end of the week. After watching your video's I am definitely getting more excited about these!
Thanks again -jon

hey , Shannon , great video , wish I could fly like that , Im trying though , sure nice talking to you on the phone today , I kinda miss the south , still damn cold up here but we can fly , 25 degrees F , well trying to fly , had a gyro go south while testing my MA gaser , hovering and tail kelp drifting way out , next thing I see is , standing on its tail and rolling over , parts list , pride , blades , maybe the spindle , and that 460 is getting fed to the fish

AARRRGGGG
Sorry to hear about your gasser. I had the same thing happen when the tape holding my 401 controller gave way and the 401 was hanging off the side of the heli. I of course did not save it completely and it rolled over after smacking the ground pertty hard, costing me both Mains and Tails, boom, mainshaft, spindle, flybar and a servo. :(

Actually, 7700 is okay. The cells are all a little over 1900 mAh each and the rating represents a discharge down to about the 3V level. What you will notice is that since the cells are so well matched, they will dump quickly at the end, much like a "zapped" set of NiCds. You'll feel the power loss, and then you know it's time to land the beast!
I have yet to find a model, from Hornets up to the Ion, that will hover when the pack gets anywhere near 3V per cell. When you "feel" the pack dumping, and bring it down, the packs will recover a bit from the load and will hover for as much as a minute or so more. At the point it just about can't take off again you still won't be at 3V per cell.
Also, you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that the packs don't actually reach their full potential until about the 7th or 8th cycle. For the first couple of cycles it is probably best not to go all out. It gives the cells a chance to "break in" a bit.
Finally, here's a video tip: turn off the auto-focus function on the camera and set the manual focus for infinity. That'll keep it from losing focus when you zoom in. Great videos, though! What a beast Chris has brought forth!

GGoodrum-- Thanks for the tips. I will try the focus trick. Also, thanks for the tips on the batts. I flew again today and the packs seem fine. I can't wait to get them 'Broken In". :D

Whats up. I am building an Ion-x and was trying to figure out witch rx battery to use. I saw some pics of yours with some kind of duralite battery that fit real nice. Any suggestions?? Thanks. Nathan

Wow - way to bring up a very OLD post -
I'm running TP1320's on both of mine - they are nice and small and work great along with duralite reg's - actually for my 2nd Ion I went with the duralite dual fail-safe reg's/heavy duty power switches... very nice units.
