well guys money aside which servo would you use in your 400 the hs65mg or JR ds285mg and why? I am changing out the stockers before i have problems and have a set of both servo's. I know the 285 bolt right in and you have to do some fitting to get the 65's in. Thanks

I would say give the DS285's a try. I run the 285's in my V2's and they are great. I want to find a place that sells the metal gear upgrade. The 285's are digital. The Hitecs are analog.

I'll vote for the 285's as well. Not sure where I bought them but here are the metal gears from heli-direct. Prob did get them from HD (they get alot of my money) :)

Yah the JR ds285mg is exactly what I have on order right now, best for the 400 imo

Just installed a set of 285MG's this past weekend...easy install, excellent servos! I would recommend them in a minute! A tad bit more expensive, but digital and metal gears...I paid $47 each for mine, I didn't go the servo package route, with the tail servo for like $160 because I wanted the metal gear version...

I also like the fact that they say "Made in Japan" right on them....

Good stuff !!

I am on stock servo #6 and now I am ready to upgrade after the next stripped gear. I think I plan to go with the 285 metal gear ... can they be used other helis such as trex, ect? The 400 is my 2nd intro heli I would like to buy parts that can be used in the future. On that same note what are your thoughts about the 3400? I am still trying to figure out what gyro to go with also.

Yes you could move them to a rex and IMO the 3400G is the bomb! I only have experience with stock 3400G and S9650, I prefer the 3400G pricey but rock solid!

Edit: oops forgot the gyro - yup went all the way with that too GY401, you might be able to skimp on cyclic, but the tail is the most important to me....if funds are low put the most money on the tail.

On a small 450 I just don't see the need for digital's, and I honestly really like Hitec servo's in general (not that JR's are bad just my preferance). Either one is going to give great performance.

On the tail I really have not made up my mind on what to go with, the 401 gyro and a 3400G seems to be the hot ticket, and I would like the 3400G simply because it runs on 6v's without doing any step down mods.

So on went the 285mg's as it seems all the reply's pointed me in that direction the only little glitch was the front servo was tight ( a little short on wire length) but other than that they fit better than stock servo. Thanks guys.

Oh yes, you need a 3" extension wire for the elevator servo......sorry mentioned it so much thought I did here too.
