GY401 - 3400G mounted on the boom and your done, as far as I can tell thats all I have done so far (for better performance anyhow) other things I have done were for looks and what not.

As good as the 401 is the 770 is a better gyro. I'd recommend the 3400G or 3500G servo. ReadyHeli has the 770/3500G combo available.

Can the 3500G run at 6V? From reading the info, I can't tell. They give 6V specs for the 3400G, but not the 3500G.

The 3500G can run at 6V. 3400G great, 3500G better.

I've installed the 285's but no gyro or tail servo yet. I believe you should install a bec with your new gyro and servo? Someone with more experience should chime in soon to clarify.

Yes, add a BEC or risk thermal shutdowns.
