my sis needs help with batt.

hello. my sis had a duracell AAA li ion battery burst in her room (wrong charger) and i told her to put it in a cup of salt water as suggested with lipoly's. she just told me that the water has black residue on the bottom of the cup and red at the top, and is wondering how to dispose of the water.
any answers here?
