well after having a bit of trouble getting my heli to hover, which caused a minor heavy tail end landing that stripped a servo and bent my tail boom, i finally hovered my heli today :smokin:

i knew i was ready to hover over a week ago, plenty of sim time and been through the Rudds instructions, but every time i got the heli just off the ground it kept coming back at me and to the left, in my limited space out back i kept just landing it, but after having no luck i thought i would go to the park with a bit more space and see if i could get it back as being a newb i still thought it was my lousy flying, as it did say it flies out of the box :DOH my first mistake

well after replacing the boom and servos, then setting the swash myself, today was the day to get out back and make sure i had put it all back together ok, it was blowing a bit of wind but i thought im only making sure everything is right so i went ahead with my test

spooled up and it was all sweet, tried all the controls and everything seemed ok, so thought bugger it, went in got the training gear fitted and went back out for a try, well bugger me if the heli just didn't lift of the ground and with a little bit of input i was hovering :happyd not pretty but i was off the ground and doing it :fly

YIPPEEE!

moral of story the E-Flight Blade 400 doesn't always fly ok straight out of the box :P

thanks to all who helped me get to where i am now, this site rocks :noteworthy:noteworthy

cheers chuck

PS battery is on charge, i'll be out the back again in an hour :YeaBaby:

G'day Chuck, onya mate must be a great feeling, I too have a B400 with a nervous twitch and am looking forward to the day when it does what it's told. Many thanks to SeaComms up here in Queensland at the Sunny Coast who is dumming everything down for me, might even manage a successful hover when I figure out which Gyro to buy.

cheers

Harry

well guys what can i say, but, THIS IS AWESOME :Bang

I've run 4 packs through her today and it's getting better and better, reckon i did a full 3 minutes off the ground a couple of times the last 2 flights, can't wait to get to a bit more space to hover in as I'm just flying under the back veranda at the moment, guess keeping it close in is learning as well :)

one thing i did find was i needed to turn the expo back to 20% from the 30% i had it set at, as i needed that extra feel, at 30% i was moving the sticks way to far to get the action i required, anyway I'm happy with 20% at this point in time

being patient and following the RADDs flying guide certainly has worked for me, oh also having a heli thats set up right too ;)

well guys again thanks for all your help and encouragement along the way, 20 years back when i flew gliders i used to look at the couple of guys trying heli's at the club and never ever thought that i would one day fly heli's myself and to top it off, not have a buddy to stand next to me and teach me, instead i have a flight sim to get a bit of confidence on and dozens of buddies with every answer i need to help me out :noteworthy

ahhh just enough light for one more pack today :YeaBaby: only half hour till it's charged :fly

cheers chuck

Boy Chuck that sounds familiar - sounds like you have led the same history and thoughts as me!
