I ran out of wood spares and only had a 475 that came with the short tail conversion. What a slouch, its like going nowhere fast! I had to hold collectives just to get it to flip. I have been only using 500 this entire time and it was perfect. If the 500mm was great then how about a 550mm? I know I may have to use the longer boom.

I agree. about the 475's not being as peepy. only way that I could think of was to slightly increase the pitch range by a little to make up for it but that didn't make the motor to happy. TT

I'm using 515's and they work great.
I really never used the woodies so I can't compare, but I have good collective and a pretty good flip rate.

I've only used the 500mm wood and carbons and they both work fine on the z20 and z30 helis.

Sorry that i have nothing to compare them with. The z30 setup seems to have so much power that 550's should work fine. Now, the z20 on the other hand.. I feel that 550's would be a bogging a lot if you tried to crank up the speed and fly it hard, but it's only a guess.

Is it possible to adjust the poll to make the blade size preferences motor specific?

I've used 500 Gaui woodies, 475 CF Blattschmied and 530 GF SAB... I'm flying with SAB for the last 50 flights. They are great! it costs energy... but I'm using the 1,5kW Gaui motor and get much more power from SAB blades. Another really nice thing is that they are really exact, no bending or anything else. Woodies were quit hard to balance and you could see how they were deformed if you used full pitch.

I flew with the 550 woodies for a while, until I realized I had a short tail and the main blades were really close to hitting the TR blades. I even got a set of 550 CF blades before I realized that. The 550 was really stable with the 550s. It was so stable that we could time a flip with a calendar.

I wanted more response and I didn't want to have a meeting of the blades. So, as an experiment I got a set of 500 woodies. I put those on in combination with increasing the cyclic, adding the lightweight paddles and adding most of the CNC parts to the head. It's much more responsive now.

How much was the blades, I don't know. I have everything I need to switch it over to a long tail so I can put the 550s back on. Also, I have most of the CNC parts in the head now and I have adjustment to make the head even more responsive if needed. I don't feel like messing with it at the moment because it's flying well right now and I don't see the need to mess with it.

Looks like I am the only one flying the 475s :( In fairness I put them on when I first flew my 550, really liked how it flew and have just left them on ever since.

I have just got some 550CFs for my Hurricane (Z20, 980kv, 13T, 2200 packs, longer boom). Not put them on yet, but would 550mm give more stability and flight times than 500mms?

it would make it more stable and be able to auto better but it would be harder on the motor and make your flight time shorter due to spinning around the extra length

I may be giving the 475's another chance as I just found out the lack of power I was feeling was more likely coming form the Z20 motor not being able to handle what I wanted it to do than the lenght of the blades as I first thought it was.

The 475 lacked the pop I needed, however it was very stable.

I don't think that 475s are okay for a heli that heavy... I used them with another heli with half the weight of an hurri and they were really great. I think an Hurricane needs at least 500mm...

I just balanced out a set of 530mm HeliMax carbons. I'm going to put them on this weekend. I also have a set of 550mm Gohbee fiberglass blades and they're lighter than my 530mm carbons and my 550 woodies. IIRC, they're 105g each and the 550 and 530 are 115g.

Its so stable with the 550s I guess Im getting lazy. I put 500s on and it was like I had to work alot harder in the hover. I did not realize it would make that much difference but it does.

Haven't tried those but they look really good.

Do let us know how this blade performs and how they track?

A good blade will track perfectly even if you swap blade grips

unless something magical happens and I somehow find some free time, I won't be flying until next weekend

I am using Hobbycity 550mm blades and they are fine for newbee like me. Comparing to 475 woodies and 500 CF from Gaui, I prefer hobbycity ones. Not very strong, but quite easy to track and makes a hover very easy. Just ordered next two sets..

are those the TIG CF blades that hobbycity carries?
