Hey all-
First thank you to all for helping me setting my bird.
Picture this: until today, I never had started anything nitro.
It went like a charm. I could manage the break in of the OS Hyper 50 quite easily, and then I went for some translations and figure8s. Almost burned a gallon !!! I had to go home because the align 2-in-1 lipo was empty!!
Now I have one question: for some reason, sometimes the engine seems to catch up revs very quickly and it is difficult to tame it. What could this be?
I have not configured the governor nor idle up for now. I just trimmed low stick at idle.
Also, I empty the tank in 5mins hovering (no header tank), does it mean I am too rich? the bottom of the engine is really cool when I touch it.

I am so happy, this big bird flies so well. No tracking problem, no gyro problem...my 500 looks like a toy now :-0

Sweet! Hey what is the long white snaked wire down the side of your heli? ;)

Not sure about the RPM increase, but I am also just at the hovering stage and I easily get 8 minutes or more per tank(no header tank). If its hitting the RPM increase at the end of your tank, thats normal, as you run out of fuel the engine will scream for a minute. Just keep an eye out for low fuel and land it before that happens. Good luck :cheers

you mean the antenna? or the plastic tubing that protect the align 2 in 1 switch?

anyway, went back for a couple more tanks. configured the idle up at 100-55-40-55-100
this thing is really cool to fly. I really like it. I was really concerned with the nitro engine starting as I had awful memories from a nitro car and plane my dad and I owned 20 years ago....but this thing starts like a car. press the button, give a starter kick and off you go. Really cool. Only bad thing about nitro now is the mess. I went there with no cloth.
Everything is oily. My futaba FF7, my jeans, my car :YeaBaby:

Yea I was making a joke about your antenna... You see less and less of long FM antenna's anymore since many have gone or are going 2.4
So just a joke ;)

ah ok, humh...FM just works fine for me :YeaBaby:
Usually a gadget freak, I fail to see why I should upgrade or change :thinking

Well, if you're not worried about interference, why not find yourself an old AM radio? I happen to have one in my garage from my plank-flying days back in the 80s if you're interested. I heard a story of one guy whose plank flipped upside-down from CB radio interference.

When I read all the 2.4ghz problems, it's kind of makes me smile. How many times did you crash with a FM coz of interfences?

I think you misread. I said AM, as in Amplitude Modulation. FM radios were quite pricey, so I went with what most other people were flying. I, personally, never had any interference problems. But, then again, I only flew the plane twice. It was too windy in south central Kansas the vast majority of the time to fly, so I gave it up.

hey man congrats on your new bird. last sunday was the maiden on my 600n sp and i put 8 tanks thru her sunday morning. one quick question. how is your cyclic. I have about 12 degrees each way of pitch and my roll and flip rate was sooooooooo slow set at 60%. So i bumped up the headspeed some and still at 80% my cyclic is so sluggish it takes forever to do a forward flip. I have the super stubz paddles and align blades. just curious what yours is.

I have not tried rolls yet with the bird, but fast banked turns and it is behaving fast enough for me - like the 500 for sure.

I can tell you i've lost over a dozen models (be it planks, or helis) from interference or FM/PCM issues over the 15 years i have been in the hobby. I've lost 3 models due to rx crystals vibrating out of the rx's (no more issues of this on 2.4), the other 9 were from interference issues or from being "shot down" by someone accidently turning on their tx w/ me on the same channe.. again, no more issues of this w/ 2.4
