Just bought the Blade 400 from HorizonHobbies and wanted to know which battery to buy as a spare. I only plan to hover and sport fly so i should be able to get longer flight times from the batteries. The LHS is worried more powerful batteries wont fit but I'm sure you all can tell me differently. So any help on size and brand would help.

As many on here already know, but I will repeat for your sake :)

Loong-Max 2250 20C are my favorite batteries :D

They are bigger and heavier than stock you can fit but snug, I've moved the holes back and a tad up on the canopy to make more room. They help counter the heavy tail too.

Or the Gforce batteries from valuehobby.com (if you don't exactly get a chubby over ordering from an online shop in Hong Kong ). They're pretty much the same battery, and you're ordering from Illinois.

I've heard those are the EXACT same cells as the Loong-Max cant say for sure.

Not sure why everyone one has problems with Hobby City  I've had 4 or 5 orders from them now and have nothing but good to say about them. For instance I ordered 2 Zippy-K series 3S 4300mah 20C for the 600 build on 4/28 I just received them today, what 3-4 days? I cant get stuff from the wrong coast (dig at helimix (Mike)) that quick but of course I do pay 20 bucks for shipping.

Are the people that have problems ordering stuff with negative stock values?

You know, in that case, you may be on the right coast. From many overseas countries, I think I recall that you can get things quicker in Cali for they typically come in there when hitting customs. If we get them over here, they have to cross the country after that. May have just been some karting tires years ago, but I recall something like that.

I didnt consider that, good point. Customs is in San Francisco, no? and that is a 45 min drive from my house.

Do we use the Dean's connectors for the Blade 400? I looked at the 1800 pack that comes in the Blade box and it has what looks to be a long cylindrical end. The ones that were mentioned above have a "T" connection.

Also, on batteries like http://valuehobby.com/product_details.php?category_id=3&item_id=29
how long do they stay out of stock? It seems like for this price, most of the web stores never have any in stock. I'm all about saving some coins but since I will only have the E-Flight battery that comes with the kit, I don't think I can wait around too long for these puppies to come back into stock.

Yup that is the Loong-Max - guess who their supplier is - Hobby City ;) they wont have them in stock until Hobby City does.

Most have changed the stock EC3 connectors to a deans. If you have already or plan on upgrading your servos this would be a good time to install a BEC as well.

Will this work as well:

Again, I'm not doing 3D so I won't be wearing out the power like you aerobatic junkies do, so will it do?

Since I just blew most of my money for the month on the Blade kit, I am going to live with everything that comes with the heli now and upgrade as I go. I'm only gonna be hovering and playing with tail-in/nose-in for a while so I'm sure it'll suffice for now. Once I do upgrade, I'll get the 401 gyro, S9650 tail servo and 3 65MG's but I'm not sure what BEC to get. Can you offer a link to one please?

Thanks,
G

That battery will do fine for all types of flying - I just dont like to solder batteries - I know - WHIMP! lol - I have 2 Zippy-K series 4300mah that came that way (no deans) - brought them to work to have a buddy solder it for me :)

Here is the BEC I like - can be run in 6V mode and you dont have to cut any wires like other models. just solder it in at the esc and your done.

One more and I'll shut up. Will I need this BEC if I'm sticking with the stock servos for now?
Here is their quote:
"SportBEC is usually a necessity at 4s and above when running high torque or digital servos."

more than likely no, but if you switch to a deans you might as well just solder once and be done.

I ordered a pair from hobbycity when they had over 200 in stock. Paid instantly with PayPal.
Their system said they'd reserved two for my order and that the order was being packed.
It stayed that way for seven days.
I placed the order on a Thursday around 11am local time (around midnight Friday in H.K.)
On Friday, stock was down below 100.
On Monday, stock was -1
On Tuesday, stock was -17
The following Thursday at around 8am local time (very late PM in HK) they finally "shipped" the order. Of course, as far as the shipping company was concerned, it didn't ship until Friday their time. Order was finally delivered the following Tuesday.
12 days for $18 "Express" shipping.

Oh, and don't bother trying to call the 800 number on their web site. No one will answer.
And don't bother sending an email; they don't reply to those either.

Sorry to hear your ordeal with them I would be frustrated too escpecially after paying for express shipping. Guess I've just been lucky. Of course living 45 min from customs is an advantage too.

I wouldn't mind an extra day for a customs stop-over in SF or LA.
It's the sitting-around-for-a-whole-week-before-we-ship-your-order thing that P'd me off.

12 days for $18 "Express" shipping. Man that DOES suck! but it could be worse!

I ordered on 3/31/2008 from www.statelinehobbies.com and STILL have nothing to show for it but a deduction to my checking account.

Sorry to hear of the ridiculous delays! Maybe next time buddy :)

I think I'm just going to get some extra 1800MaH Lipos for now instead of biting my nails off waiting for the 2250's.

http://valuehobby.com/product_details.php?category_id=3&item_id=27

These will fit in the Blade's right?

be sure to read some of the reviews.. here is one from that link

"""I would like to shine some light on this lipo. I bought several of these about 1.5 years ago (back when they came in the clear covering). They always worked well for the first 10 or so flights, but after that, each and every one of them began to puff. They would still work well for some time thereafter, but the swelling was obvious. Since then, several members of our club have purchsed these new purple ones, with the same EXACT results. They all work well at the beginning, but QUICKLY loose capacity and begin to puff."""""
