ok im trying to figure out what gears i want to use with my z30... im leaning towards the 50t gear and 15t pinon giving me around 2300 rpm but im not sure how good this heli will preform 3d with that much... or if i should bump it up a little... what is everybody else using with the z30 and how much headspeed are you getting

I'm using 50T/15T, Z30A, 550mm CF blades and what I can say is this setup has more than enough to do 3D. HS=2100rpm.

I'm able to do 7mins mild 3D and put back 2400~2500mAh.

I think 2300hs is plenty good 3D

yea i figured that should be plenty so im gonna try that... now im just trying to figure out where to place all of my electronics... like should i put my esc on the esc spot or on the side of the frame?

I am runnig Z30 with owb 19T with 42T/14T, I have not measured rpm but good for light 3D (guess around 2200)

Since I have got some owb/19T failures I planned to move to 20T variant.

Is this not good: owb/20T with 42T/13T ? Should get similar rpm as above, or why are all going with 50T ?

because with the 42t and 13tpinon i have to shave alot more frame off and i really dont want to weaken it much more so bigger gears are easier to mesh... and if the 15t isnt enough i can go to the 16t pinon and all would be good lol

oh yes of course, was not thinking of it, thanks. It is already limit with 14T and CF frame, so with 13T it might be impossible more or less.

Why not get the Revco gears and run 21/68 or 20/68 if you have the 20T OWB.

well cause first of all i own all the gears and pinons lol... and second to my understanding the revco gears are thinner than the new gears so i would just be getting smaller gears. im just gonna try 50t with 15t pinon at 100% tc and see how that works. if i need more i might try the 16t pinon at 95% or something

How many cells or what kind of lipos do you use? That would 360mAh / minute?!? My setup with 1,5kW Gaui motor consumes around 600mAh per minute....

Dualsky 3300mAh 22C 3sx2

I believe this is due to the Z30A.

A friend of mine able to do the same setup for 12min with just hovering and lazy fig 8.

I'd say fly the heli with the gears you have and see how it goes. If you are using the 50t main gear use the 14 tooth pinion and lets use the tach on it and see what it does. P.S. Dave says you don't fly enough to need a z30 anyway. lol

I seem to see more post about the Revco gears stripping than the Gaui stock gears. They are suppose to be stronger?

At over 150 flights I have yet stripped any Gaui gears even with half dozen crashes.

The 50T front main gear gives you a lot more option, 13T/50T combo is a bit low HS for 500mm blades but battery and motor runs cool, 14t is about right for FF and mild 3D, 15T or 16T for wild, but its hungry for amps.

the initial Gaui gears stripped real easy.. the revco are stronger than those gears.. the current Gaui OK gears are better than the older gaui gears and probably better than the revco gears since they have more material for the gears to grab.
