I have the gv1 hooked up to 12FG. The gv unit will report changes in rpm in N, I1, I2 but it remains in SR2. How do I get to switch to SR1 and SR2 or is it even necessary?

Have you flown the model and determined that there is actually a different rpm for Normal mode, Idle 1 and Idle 2?

Not to worry, tad.
As long as you can see the rpm change at the GV1 when switching between the different idle-up's, you are ok.
It will behave normally in flight and give you the desired rpm.
Mine is also "stuck" at SR2, when controlled from a 14MZ.

How are most people setting up their switches? I was thinking I would use an on off switch to turn on governor when head comes up to speed. recommendations?

I use the collective stick to turn the GV-1 on/off. Saying that, I do have a switch assigned also for on/off to set the throttle curves as back up. The switch position over-rides the collective command. I personally dont like lots of switching switches during flight as there is enough to think about with idle up/hold/dual rates etc etc so I just find it easier to use the collective stick as on/off for everyday flying.

or

You could assign different speeds to each flight condition. If you want, you can have normal mode with the GV-1 off, and use the switch that controls idle-up 1&2 to turn the GV-1 on at the set speeds. Then when you are coming in to land switch out of idle up and your back to normal mode with the GV-1 off. Dont forget though to programme V shaped throttle curves in idle up or the GV-1 will switch off at low stick

I have set 1750 for sw1, 1850 for sw2 and 2050 for sw3 representing Normal, Idle-up 1 and idle-up 2 on my T-rex nitros.

Thats why I like this unit. Its so versatile.

I would like to have it on in normal for hovering practice. Since there is only a three way switch I would have to control it w/ seperate on/off? will the unit come on regardless of stick position when setup this way?

I'm sure you know this but the three way switch will be both your idle-up condition switch and the GV-1 speed settings switch at the same time. You dont need to use a seperate ON/OFF switch to control it. You can still assign another switch as ON/OFF in addition to this as a back up though and to fly without the aid of the GV-1 if required.

You can have the GV-1 on in normal mode for hovering practice at the speed to which you set it. The GV-1 will turn ON whan the stick goes beyond about 15-20% of travel. Be careful with this though as if you go below the 15-20% then the GV-1 will turn off and the will revert back to your pre-set throttle curve. You can check whats happening by scrolling through the various screen settings and moving the stick up and down. Look at SWPt and SWCd. They should change to on and off with movement of the collective stick.

I spent a fair amount of time working this out as the manual isn't so easy to understand but the more you use it the easier it becomes. Finless Bob does a great video in his T-rex Nitro build video on the GV-1. Jason Krause also has a quick set up guide on www.jkheli.com (http://www.jkheli.com)

Hope this helps

Thanks Pete,

I know the switch controls both functions, I was wondering if you could set it up so GV comes on when stick is raised 15-20% and stay on until turned off by another switch. That would be nice.

thats how mines set up. i have a 3 way switch on my 14mz SR1 is off, SR2 is 1650 and SR3 is 2000. when i flick into SR2 or 3 it will not engage until i raise my stick about 15%.

i do have a question for you guys who are also using the GV-1. my throttle hold won't because my governor overrides it. are you guys able to use throttle hold with yours? and when you switch out of it does it rev right back up to speed?

i have 1700 in sr1 1900 sr2 2100 sr3 gov turns on at about 20% in sr1 is always on, in sr2 and 3. hitting throttle hold works perfectly, and can auto. can flip switch and bail out of auto.

Follow Finless set up it will work as it is supposed to.

Yes, you can do that. Just assign another switch to the channel that you have the ON/OFF cable plugged into (mine is channel 8). This will then become your ON/OFF switch and will overide the stick command. Page 14-15 of the manual shows this for a few different radios.

Thanks I figured it out.
