hi guys
i just got started, and have imediately crashed my heli
fortunately i like fixing stuff
but i know nothing on flying 3d and was wondering why whenever i turn on the
invert. flight switch the motor turns on, even when the throttle is down.
I did this and the blades spun and gave me a sick slit in the knee.
any tips?
thanks-Danny

Hi Danny and welcome to THE Belt CP forum.
Firstly, I presume you have a stock Belt and Esky [henceforth to be known as "pEsky"] 0406A tx.
The "invert flight swith" , do you mean the one situated top left of the TX?
If so, that is the "idle up" switch, which adjusts the throttle curve such that selecting anything less than about 50% power, will result in the blade pich staying at about 0, but with a goodly amount of rotor speed!!! Very dangerous beast!!!!!!!!!
Personally I have mine guarded against inadvertent application, and it is a switch which you should ALWAYS check is OFF [up] before connecting the battery. You will find many stories on this forum about this switch causing incidents/accidents. If you understand what it does, then it's fine but be cautious with it.
All the best - we're all here to help each other!!!
Mike
[ps. apologies if explanation was a bit "noddy", but don't know what experience you have]

Hi Danny hope you survive:lol:
Youll find it cheaper if you practise on a sim. Helisim is a good free one available on the internet.
You need to learn to hover safely first before you do anything else. The idle up switch is to enable you to fly inverted so throttle goes up from center stick in both directions, pitch is negative below half stick and positive above half stick. You dont, need to worry about it at all untill you start doing fast forward flight.
The manual that comes with the heli is written very badly but you can get all the info you need here.
Also many wonderful mods and upgrades which I'm sure you will love if you like making things.
A lot of people use a tutorial Called Radd's but I dont have experience of it. The main thing is to take things step by step and keep your heli properly set up.
Learn to:
1 Hover tail in
2 Hover side on
3 Fly side to side turning the nose in the direction your flying
4 Hover nose in
5 Fly circuits in front of you
Or something like that
It's more than worth the effort to learn to fly it properly these are absolutely brilliant little machines and fascinating to fly and maintain:)
All the best with it and please don't hesitate to post any questions or concerns you have

thanks guys
a bit confusing, but i guess i wont have to worry about it until i get into serious flying. whats the best way to get into inverted position? nosing in and then using the switch?
thanks

You would use the switch on take off and keep it active through the whole flight. Basically it puts full throttle on all the time and just changes the pitch from positive to negative.

Its all very simple... DO NOT TOUCH THAT SWITCH UNTIL YOU KNOW HOW TO FLY.

Take it one step at a time!
The last thing you want to be even thinking about is going inverted. This ain't no computer game!!
There is a lot to learn and Ian's progress steps above are spot on.
Take your time and enjoy the challenge.

Dont let Grant lead you astray:YeaBaby: He's a wizz kid who plays with R/C things for a living.
He started doing 3D flying about 7 weeks after getting his first heli, most people take quite a bit longer.
And even he spent several hundred dollars on his heli last week after crashing it about five times!!!:)
Unless you are rich then take it steady, if you have trouble getting your stock TX to work with a simulator the esky dedicated sim TX costs very little and will get you learning the basics without smashing your heli.
Like Simon sayes it's not computer game, just clipping the blade on something can require a serious rebuild.
Watch finless Bob's set up vids and become familliar with how your heli works
like I said it is an amazing piece of engineering and tremendous fun to learn to fly:thumbup:

cool
what did that guy mean,
"Basically it puts full throttle on all the time and just changes the pitch from positive to negative."
and to start wiht it on? wouldnt that propell it towards the ground?
is the idle switch what controls pitch when the switch is on?
thanks

Yes it would unless your heli is upside down........Thats what it's for,
I fly with it on most of the time now because you need negative pitch to pull the heli down when you're flyin in wind and it tries too disapear into the sky... also the higher head speed improves overall handling
You don't want to fly in the wind till you can at least hover in still air.
Grant was simplifying a little when he said it keeps it at full throttle the 'throttle curve'
usually runs from 100% to 80% back to 100% at low mid and high stick position in Idle up.

Didnt really explain it too well, but basically in normal mode and idle up mode at 50% throttle should give 0 pitch on the blades. So, to go into idle up mode you would start in normal, increase throttle to around 50% and then flick the switch. you can make your throttle and pitch curves line up above 50% in which case you can flick the switch in any position above that. I now run a flat 100% throttle curve in idle up, this means that in any position the motor will be on full and the throttle stick just works pitch.
at 50% throttle as stated is 0 pitch, below that goes into negative pitch (usually around 11 degree's at 0% throttle) and above 50% throttle will go into positive pitch, again upto around 11 degrees at 100% stick input. This allows you to lift of purely using the change in pitch.
So, if you want to fly normally, then flip upside down you would take off with positive pitch, then flip over and give negative pitch by pulling the throttle stick down. Quite simple:)

Hi Grant did you hear, I nearly shot myself in the head with a blade today when the feathering shaft came undone at about 10 feet,
blades made a wonderful PHWAPP noise as the flew across the field:roll:
100% throttle curve? doesnt that give you a bit of a jolt when you flick the switch?

Woops! I get worried sometimes that it might happen to me too, and with the head speed and carbon blades i run it would be nasty it you got hit!
Did the rest of the heli survive?
I get a small jolt, but being as i change at around 70/80% anyway its not much of a jump, Its what alot of the pro's do anyway, including finless. Just means your always running at the best you can do so that theres no need trying to match up a throttle curve that tries to give you the most constant head speed.
This scorpion motor rocks!

Very Jammy again Just a main gear, the dampers of course and the little spacers on the feathering shaft, fly bar looked quite artistic too. Oh and that tail boom which was already due for retirement as it came with the bird and has taken every knock it's had so far:)
Blades, head, frame, feathering shaft, main shaft, canopy and tail all fine:):)
I took the opportunity to strip and rebuild the head and replace most of the plastic links
Also re thread locked every thing:YeaBaby:
