The Kestrel is sold by Century UK which is just a wholesale distributor for genuine Century Helicopter Products (a US company) along with other items made by other manufacturers.

The Kestral is NOT an item made or designed by Century Helicopter products. I believe they are made in the orient by another company and just imported into the UK by CenturyUK.

You will note that you will NOT be able to find the Kestral listed anywhere on the Century Helicopter Products web site.

Maybe it is best to contact the folks at CenturyUK re: the compatibility.

The Kestrel looks like a rebadged Walkera 83.

I can't think of any reason off the top of my head why you couldn't use a 6 channel radio setup in it if you wanted to. It's not going to have mixture control or a governor that you would need an extra channel to control.

However, it seems to me that one of the advantages of the Kestrel is that everything (apart from starting gear) is included so would (presumably) make a good beginner package. If you don't want/ need half the stuff, maybe there's a better route to consider?

i did just want to buy the complete package but was worried about it being pcm.I have always used 2.4g so have no idea how pcm performs.I am on a tight budget so would only be able to afford a dx6i and this is how this question arose.thanks

Hey,

I have a Nitro Kestrel SE and it flies great on the stock PCM radio gear with no glitches and so if you dont have a spare 2.4ghz receiver lying around dont worry about it for now.

Ultimately you will not have a problem running the little Kestrel on your DX6i as it only has requirements for a spare channel to control gyro gain. Having said that I am sure you could default it to heading hold if there was not a spare channel available.

On my example all I have done so far is increase the control throws and re-setup the eCCPM to suit 3D style of flying as out of the box it's more geared towards the beginner.

Only gripe I have about the model if I am really picky is the small sized transmitter, especially if you have big hands. Other than that though it's a great set with a lot of features, so much so that I've even asked CenturyUK if they could bundle this set with other models even.
