Hi All,

Sort of new to this heli stuff and I am having an isues getting the gyro and tail to work properly.

I am building a Trex 450S with a Tellibee 201 Gyro, and S9650 servo, Spectrum DX6i trasmitter with matching recevier.

When I plug the servo directly into the recevier (the rudder channel) I am able to get full range of motion on the tail without binding. Thie threshold setting on my radio for the rudder are 80L and 80H. The linkage is 90 degress and moves without binding. So far so good.

Then I plug the servo into the gyro, plug the gyro to the rudder channel, and plug in the gyro sense wire to the gear channel. Again so far so good.

The problem comes when I set all the gyro settings and the threshold for the gyro to 50 the servo swings way too far. When I adjust the thresholds for the rudder I have to bring them down below 10 to stop the binding. This makes the tail servo move really slow and I know this is not right.

I have many questions on the receiver setup that may help me understand whats happeneing.

1) The threshold setting for the gyro channel seem to do nothing? Are the supposed to?
2) The gyro setting on the transmitter is linked to the gyro switch. Two positions. I am assuming that a setting below 50 is for head holding and a setting above 50 is standard? Is this right? The percentage is the GAIN setting of the gyro?
3)What am I missing?

Any help would be appreciated. :arggg:

Other way around. Above 50 is HH mode, below 50 is rate mode.

Thanks for the input.
Is it normal to have to crank down the threshold of the rudder to stop the tail from binding? With the thresholds below the rudder is moving to slow.

Am i supposed to set the gain to lets say 51, then set the thresholds, then go back to the gain to get rid of the tail wagging? Everytime I adjust the gain the servo throws more and more and then eventually binds and i have to crank down the thresholds.

Sorry for the n00be qustions. I have searched for days and watch every vidioe i could find before asking the group for help. I have to say there is very little reference to the DX6i trasmitter and proper setup if the gyro and rudder servos. :(

Thanks for any input.

You should never have to crank it way down. If you're making that much of an adjustment, you need to move the linkage rod closer to the hub on the servo. Otherwise, you're losing too much movement resolution.

I don't know anything about your gyro, but on most gyros, the threshold is independent of gain. It may be a side effect of you cranking down the threshold so much.[/QUOTE]

On the radio there is a threshold setting (end pints) for the gyro but they do not seem to do anything. That is at 0 or 100 there is no difference in movement.

I am using the circle horn on the servo and it is very close to the center.

I don't know that gyro either. Does it have a limit pot like the GY-401 does? If so, that is what you use to limit binding along with servo placement like TheBum said. I wouldn't think you'd want to use your rudder ATVs at all since it would slow your piro rate way down.

I am having the same problem with a different gyro, same radio. I have never been clear on the end points or threshold. Is this the travel adjust menu on the Dx6i? Thanks.

Yes, it is called travel adjust on the Spectrum/JR radio's.

End points on the rudder channel set piro rate. They are not used to set the servo throw limit (in MOST cases) The gyro itself usually has some sort of limit adjustment and that is where you set the "end point". You may have to move the link in or out a hole (or two) to get it correct.

Thanks guys, I think that helped clear up some thing s for me.
