invent a heli with a charging system on board. charge while you fly. an inverter?

lol, there is no such thing as free energy, it just goes from one form to another, always loosing... it will cost more to make the extra energy than it will produce from something like that, otherwise we wouldn't have an energy crisis :) I propose we go nuclear...

but if we go nuke, won't there be a mini mushroom cloud when we crash? hey, i could fly it over my x mother-in-laws house, and do a kamakazi on her crib.:Bang

Crabster got any serious ideas for Rotorhead here, mines just stupid but i'll share...

first you'll need a very small heli, like the Micro Mosquito or smaller...
then you'll need a hi-powred Klystron (like an amplifed, coherent focused magnatron found in your microwave)...
then a laptop to run with motion traking software and a 3 axis mount to keep the Klystron aimed at the heli...
and some microwave rectenna mounted to the heli to convert the microwaves to electrical energy again

...so all you need to do is 'beam' high energy microwaves directly at the mirco heli to keep it charged and have a limitless flight time... simple!! :)

Just try not to fly the Heli between the Klystron and you.... or you could end up cooking your own liver!!

ok tethered flight? It'd be super light without the battery, plug into the wall and hope that the wires don't get tangled with the blades lol.

Unlimited flight... I used to wish for longer flight times. But the more I fly, the more I like short little flights, my brain just can't keep up anything more than 5 mins at a time. I suppose flight time won't be an issue IF batteries were cheap, and charge times were short.... Can't wait for other suitable battery alternatives, something non explosive would be nice :) maybe a123 or other developments will turn into something that's going to change the heli hobby :)

Lets face it guys, tethered flight in on the pointless side of things :hammer, and Crabfu is right, trying to fly a heli for more than five minutes is hard, and battery technology is really taking off . If you can think back 2 or 3 years, we were using 8 cell Ni-Cd and Ni-Mh batteries and brushed motors to get 3 minute flights if we were lucky.
