Hello all,

I want to try one of the compass 600E machines and not sure what comes with the kit. I see that there is a 6S and 8S kit. I was going to order from Modefo's as he has treated me well in the past. I was thinking of the 8S setup.

Does a motor and/or ESC come with the kit?

Which lipos or A123's do you guys suggest for good flight duration as I am just beginning 3D. Mostly loops, rolls, and some inverted flight.

I currently fly a Trex 600, and Raptor E620. I use A123's in both ships to get lots of flights in. I have over 300 flights on both machines with the A123's and both fly great. If I could fly the knight with A123's that would be great. I don't own any big lipo's so if I can't use A123's I will need suggestions on which brand and sizes to get.

I would use 9252's on cyclic and 401/9254 on tail. If ESC is not included in kit, I would get a HV85 as that's what I use in my other 600's and they have been working well. I use DX7 w/ AR7000. I fly with separate rx packs on 600's as well. My flying field is at 6800' asl. Also, what blades would work for my flying style. I use Align blades on the other 600's and was thinking of trying a pair of Rototech's.

Thanks for the input,

kster

The kit comes with a motor and no ESC

Compass Knight 600E 8s Kit
Stock motor
AR7000
Radix 600mm
Flightpower Evolite 8s 4270 Lipo
Futaba 9254 tail
Futaba 9252 cyclic
Western Robotics HC BEC
Castle Creations HV-85 ESC
K&B Tail Blades
Futaba 401gyro (Soon to be a Curtis Youngblood Solid G)

I don't know what you would need to make A123's work, but my setup is awesome.

Lith,

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you have a cheap source for the lipo's? Also, What is the tooth count on the main gear and what pinion are you using. Does a pinion or two come in the kit?

What do you think the flight time would be on a normal non 3D flight? 6 or 7 minutes?

Thanks,

Kirk

You use the pinion that comes in the kit as it's setup for a 8s Lipo. I don't think any of us has a cheap Lipo source.

Normal non 3D..... 5-6 minutes with a Flightpower EVOlite 8s 4270 Lipo.

A123 cells should work with it but you would need to measure the frames to see which will fit the heli.
the hv85 should work if thats what you are using currently on a 8s set up.
6s has a lower flight time from what i can tell and the lipos are a little cheaper.
be sure to correctly set up your cyclic pitches or you will not like the heli. it is much more critical than the align since this is a true 3d heli.
good luck

Thanks Eye,

I usually start out with setting the cyclic to very tame and then add more movement to the swash as I get used to the heli.

I am still pricing lipo's and may break down an get some of those exothermic energy bombs.

Wes got back to me and will probably get the heli from him.

Thanks all,

I probably won't get to order till next week. Hopefully he will still have a kit left. I bought my first heli from Wes years ago. The original align 450. You know the old gray plastic one.

I am still searching and not like the price of lipo's. Does anyone know the tooth count of the included pinion and the main gear? I am trying to get some idea's for a A123 setup.

Thanks all for the input,

kster

its 87/10 with a 760kv motor, can A123 cells take the amps? average pilots will peak at 85-90 amps with more agrrssive ones topping 100amps.

Thanks for the tooth count. They are good for 30c sustained, just like today's lipo's. If amps get to high, just add more cells. Watts equals volts times amps. My raptor uses 10s and Rex 600 uses 7s2p, which are both 8 pound 50 sized heli's spinning 600mm blades.

Thanks for the info, I will run some numbers.

Please post your results if you go with the Li-ions. Might try to use them also.

Thank you
