I am new to this electric heli thing. Not only am I new to electric helis but I chose to go with a Spektrum radio after using only Futaba for 20+ years. I am installing the DX6i in my new Trex 450 SE V2 and using an ar6200 receiver. The instructions state that I have to install the power switch with an onboard battery pack and plug the binding plug into the charging plug to bind the radio. The radio did not come with a switch or battery pack. My heli uses the battery that powers the motor to also power the radio. Do I have any alternative's to bind the radio or do I have to purchase a battery pack and switch solely for that purpose?

You do not have to purchase a battery pack. Disconnect the motor from the ESC and plug the ESC in to the throttle port on the receiver. Then plug your flight battery in to the ESC. The LED on the receiver and remote receiver should start to blink. Now hold the trainer switch on the transmitter on and turn on the transmitter. Watch the LED on the receiver and the remote receiver, when they both go solid you can release the trainer switch. Now disconnect the flight battery and turn off the transmitter and remove the bind plug. The receiver should now be bound to the transmitter.

He missed a step :)

You have to put the bind plug into the BATT port on the reciever, then power up the reciever, then power up the transmitter with the bind button held down, I think its a toggle switch on the 6i, then wait for everything to go solid, turn everything off, remove the bind plug, and enjoy.

It doesn't matter. Just make sure you remove the bind plug BEFORE you power the Rx back up.
