Just maidened my new Trex 500 and I have to say, this Spartan gyro is pretty sweet.. Took a few tries to get it all configured (don't have the Flash Link cable) but once I figured out what was what, it went pretty smoothly.

I'm driving a JR Z3650 servo with it and I was surprised I had to turn the gain down so far to stop it from wagging. With my 611s on my Trex 600s, I run gain around 75% on my X9303 which equates to about 34 or 35 at the gyro. Similar numbers for the 401s on my 450s.

On this 500, I've got gain down at 45% on the radio which translates to about 32 at the gyro... Seems odd that similar gain numbers at the gyro translate into that much holding power...

Tail of the 500 that good, or is the gyro/servo combo that good??

I did a few full collective punch-outs and the tail never budged.. A couple piros showed a bit of a bounce, but I should be able to fine tune that once I get the FlashLink cable...

The Spartan gyro is normally found to perform great with less gain than other brands.
I think I'm around 32 on my 600E. Seems to be a good starting place.

I'm not sure what the actual gain is (Don't have the FlashLink cable yet) but the setting in the Tx is much lower than my other helis with 611s on 'em.

Nice gyro tho.. Just have a little bounce back on stopping fast piros...

Hmmm isnt anything under 50% going to put it into rate mode ?

Depends on the transmitter. probably not.

Min is down at 30%. I'm going to move my rudder linkage ball in one notch on the horn and raise thegain a tad.

When I first fired mine up, I had the gain defaulted to 50%. The tail did an incredible high frequency wag ON THE GROUND. I lowered the gain and it seems to fly great!

Im using it with a Futab BLS 251 full size servo.

I'm using gear channel endpoints so I can input pos and neg values. Anything positive is on the HH side...

Rick,

I had the same issue when I first tried to fly with this gyro. BIG "huffing" tail swings before the heli even got light on the skids.. Backed the gain down and managed to get airborne and then got a 2-3 cycles/second wag before backing it down even more and getting the tail to behave...

why arn't you using the gyro menu ?

'cuz I'm not. :) I could since I'm running an Ar7000 in this heli, but it's just as easy running endpoints. I run the same gain regardless of flight mode so it's not an issue...

Same gain in different flight modes ?!?!? Different HS needs a slight difference no the gain to get the most out of the gyro.

Not a whole lot of difference between a throttle curve of 100-95-90-95-100 and flat 100.

Besides, on the 9303, you *CAN'T* use the gyro menu with a 6ch receiver 'cuz you can't assign the gear channel to the gyro. You would have to use a 7or more channel Rx and use AUX2 for gain.

It is definitely possible then to use the 9303`s gyro menu with a JR R921 receiver instead of using the gear switch?
I usually use JR gyros and the tx`s gyro menu and have just got hold of a DS760 to try.
