Hi all
Mini titan 4s suggestions:
I"m getting tired of frying batteries after 20 cycles and now like to try 4s setup to help the batteries not work so hard (more volts, less amps)
I'm NOT looking for extra power, or head speed, the stock setup is fine for now.
i was thinking of the jgf 450th 3000kv with either 10tooth or 11 tooth pinion on 4s. this should give me about 2800 if i remember correctley
this should also give me an option to fall back to 3s setup with 15 tooth if 4s setup don't make batteries last longer
any input welcomed

If your smokin all your 3s packs your doing something very wrong. Are you running them down past 3.3v per cell? Are they cheap quality off brand packs?

I have a nue 1107 2y. (I think) It and the 1800 pack stay cool after about 5 minutes of hard 3d. You should get more than 20 cycles from your packs even on 3s.

Running Kong 25c 2200.. 20 cycles each, and now i only get about 3 min of flight time (static rolls, back flips) before low battery warning kicks in and put back about 1200 -1300. never run below 3.8 v (after battery cooled down) and never put back more than 1600mah.just over 3 months old, so out of warranty. Got flight power 2170 that lasted 70 cycles before dropped power. but that was my learning battery, so never had much load on it.
MT still running stock motor and stock esc, with auto timing, and 100/95/100 curve.
so, i have 3 batterys that good for eather hover orientation practice, or short flights...
This Electric power driving me insane. if 4s setup not work, then there will be another electric for sale:(

summing isnt right with your heli, and i think its a tail belt thats too tight thats sapping your power !
i tried 4s with a JGF500 with a 11t .. yea it was fun with loads of power , but i much prefer the 13t and 3s , i fly for 5mins and put around 1700 back
can you do all four flying orientations ? if not IMO dont bother with more power untill you got em nailed .....
how many minutes did you fly with the kong packs before they lost power ?

hi Blackrat
Thanks for reply.
ok, tail belt just tight enough not to slip (holding tail and turning main blades, it will slip if turned hard)
flew 5min everytime on kongs. just checked again last night, set esc to 2.9v (was 3.2v)cutoff voltage and run for 5.30 min. batteries came out at 3.1v after rest (this the first time i actually discharged below 3.8v). i put back 1800 mah, and this on kong with 20 cycles, which was properly cycled for first 8 cycles (ie, 1min hover, charge, 2min hover, charge, etc.) this 8 cycles are included in total of 20.
on 3.2v cutoff, getting between 2:30 min and 3min now doing static rolls and some back flips.
currentley practicing noise in inverted, can do other 3 orientations. both packs gave up the ghost after some really bad tick tocs.(power sapping)
i think the stock setup just draws to much amps in high power moves and kills the battery. Thats why i stated that i don't want more power.. simply want less amp draw from battery to try and make last longer.
At this point in time not going to really bother spending more money on MT .. busy saving for bigger (500). keeping setup as if for orientation practices and pyro excersizes.
made some calc last night. costing me 4 times more($3,50) / 5min to fly my 450e than to fly my nitro 600. ($0.80). this converted from SA rand.

ja boet , tell me bout the exchange rate ;)
my advise to you is stop flying with a cutoff on the esc , and start flying by time only ...
but that pack is screwed , can you measure headspeed ? do you have two idle up throttle curves , one for simple flying with a lower headspeed and one for all out headbanging ? i found by changing between the two idle ups it would punish the pack alot less as there is no need for high headspeed if you doing circuit's
are you still on the stock woodies ? i found mine to take atleast 30 seconds off flight time, they are a real power hogg imo
are you running a 13t pinion atm ? is the motor or esc warm when you land ?
dont change to 4s , its not going to solve the problem , you need to go thru the heli one bit at a time and check for binding , meshing etc ...
i overdischarge a 3700 5s pack hovering my logo on 425mm blades in less than 4 mins , i thought what the hell is going on , i should get at least 8-9 mins of plain hovering ... it turned out the tail belt was too tight , i couldnt believe how much power it was sapping !
hope you get it sorted

Running Align pro woodies....
always run 5 min timer (have to maybe drop that to 2min now ;-)).. was just testing with the cutoff to see actual mah back in pack.
maybe should replace tail belt, got about 160 flights might just be stuffed.
everything else is fine.. went over it with last rebuild (3 flights ago) had to test gravitiy and solidity of earth... results was.. gravitiy still working fine, and earth very solid.
esc freezing,motor warmish, battery warmish...
(running 100% curve st1), 80 % for normal flying (which i don't do much anymore).
no idea about head speed, what ever stock system can do at 100%.
can spin rotor head by hand and get about 5 -8 full turns after.. used to get about 2 when was new.. so cannot see binding on bench, maybe something binding in air....

Could your charger be playing up?
My MT started eating batteries but stopped once once the motor was replaced. The electrics were getting very hot .Your temps sound fine.

Well, did some more tests... i easily get about 7 min normal hover at 80%. but then battery warm (almost not able to hold it) motor cool, esc warm.
but soon as i go idle up, i get about 3 1/2 min of actual power out of battery, after this, good for hover, but cannot even try and pull a loop, head speed just drops, even roll or flip get tail to kick out due to lack of head speed.
also think my motor that starting to go... waiting on Compass Atom to be released, then will buy that. till then, will stick with current setup and fly it till it can't

ever thought about a 500 th w/ 12 t pinion and 4S Li-Mn-cells ? I ran mine on 3000 headspeed w/ 70% ESC , flighttime 05:00 ...05:30 ( only 1400 mAh cap. , but powered up on 2C rate within 30 minīs ). If the 450 th wastes this much energy like the 450f itīs not a wonder you fry your batt.īs
5S A123 - 1100 is possible, too. But flighttime wonīt be more than 4 minīs ( okay, charge will only takes 12 minīs at 5 Amps, pumped them up within 7 mins on 7.5 amps, but not real good for lifetime.... :D )
