Hey,

I've been having trouble lately balancing my TP 2200 V2's 11.1V. It takes almost 3 hours to charge/balance them at 1C. They are pretty new so I don't think it's internal resistance bulding up anyway I sent in the batteries to TP and they said the're fine but they seem to be having the same problems with the BC6. So my question is if my BC6 might be too sensitive or is there maybe a software update or anything that can be done because I love the charger and really don't want to buy a new one but 3 hours to balance a battery is just taking too much of my time ? Any suggestions ? Can I just stop the balancing proces after like an hour or so or will they take damage from that ? Help ?

First off, does this happen on other batteries or just the TP's?

It's been the same story on my align batteries, which I thought were bad quality anyway because they puffed so I didn't think too much of it and bought the thunderpower ones. And guess what, after about 10 cycles they took longer and longer to balance. So is there anything I can do ?

So what was the problem? I've got 2 TP extreme series II, 11.1 V, 2200 mAh, batteries and have been thinking of getting either the TP-610 or the BC6 charger...

After discussing the issue with Chosen69, I asked him to send me his charger for evaluation.

Thanks for the very quick response Evan!! You're support is second to none!

Evans service IS second to none as far as I'm concerned !! I'll keep this post updated to as of what the problem was. My guess is that the BC-6 is just super sensitive concerning cell voltage which is probably a good thing but taking a lot of my time / patience but your batteries will be über-balanced.

I will be following this thread closely.
I would like to know more.

Your charger and batteries tested perfectly.

The TP EAC129 board had loose sockets on it. The 6 pin socket itself was actually broken. I replaced the EAC129 board for you at no charge and your equipment is shipping back to you on Monday.

As you can see, Evans service IS second to none and he's fast too !!
And I guess us heli guys we're all the same when it comes to our equipment: everything needs to be perfect and if something's not 100% right we're not happy. I guess we're all perfectionists! At least I know I am. Anyway Evan helped me out big time and saved me from throwing away my TP batteries. As soon as my charger is back I'll give you an update but there's no doubt in my mind that I'll be a happy camper and my Rex 450 back in the air without waiting 3 hrs for my batts to balance...
I probably should cut those little plastic noses on the balancing tabs as I read in another thread. I guess thats why the socket came lose...

Hi.
Im convinced that those little tabs are the reason my board became moody.
Chop em off I say! Chop some sense into em!

Im glad your problem is sorted. I know how frustrating it is as youve seen from my thread.
Now Ive got a V balancer for sale. Lol.

Evan. What a guy! Finless Evan.
Happy balancing.

My new BC6 did the same with one of my AT 6S 2200 packs. I put it on balance charge and noticed that after my first flight with this new pack that the 1st cell was WAY low compared to the others, even though I only took out about 85% or so. It ended up taking 317 minutes to charge the pack and balance. I flew the pack yesterday and when I charged it this time it took the normal time and the cells were all within .01mAh, so I'm assuming that it's working just fine and so far I'm happy with the charger.

One question I do have though is how fast should I be charging my NiMH TX packs? I generally like to do 1 cycle of discharge/charge to keep the "memory effect" to a minimum. My TX pack is a 9.6V, 2500. I discharge at arouind 2.5A and charge at the same with a trickle of 50mAh and find that my packs get REALLY hot! I temped it last night and it was up to around 122 degrees. And then I notice that once I finish charging the pack and turn on my TX, it's not fully charged. It's only at 10.6 V or so. Hmmmm, why is that??

Hope that all made sense. Haha.

I'm not sure that I completely understand what you're saying:
even though I only took out about 85% or so.

I'm no battery doctor but if you really took out "ONLY" 85% of your battery capacity I think you're draining them too much !! From what I've heard you shouldn't drain more than 70% off a Lipo ?

I assume you mean the cells were within .01 V ??

My TX pack is a 9.6V, 2500. I discharge at arouind 2.5A and charge at the same with a trickle of 50mAh and find that my packs get REALLY hot! I think uncharging them @ 2.5A is WAY too much !! They will get hot ! You should probably not uncharge with more than 0.5A. Maybe somebody with more battery knowledge can back me up on that. Not trying to be a smart axx...

First off a Nimh battery does not have the memory effect, you are thinking of NiCad cells.
A transmitter pack should discharge at 0.3 amps, about the same as the actual transmitter. Second off 122 degrees is not "really hot" .This temp is "ideal".for NiMh cells.
You should use a Delta-Peak charger .
If a 9.6 volt pack reads 10.6 volts,
Haha why do you believe it is not charged?

Okay guy's, just like hollywood this story has a happy ending:

I received my charger back in the mail today and can barely get the smile off my face because first of all with the new EAC129 board, which Evan gave me for FREE by the way, my batteries balance perfectly in no time !!! So I'm a happy camper !!
Second, he sent me the check that I had included for shipping etc. back untouched !!
Plus they packed all the stuff that I had just thrown into the box neatly in bubble wrap and styro etc. !!

So what can I say ?

Well, I would recommend RC Accessory to anyone who's in the market for:

A: an excellent and flexible charger - BC6

B: a customer service second to none - fast, helpful and always polite

looks like Evan is a professional and perfectionist like most of us helifreaks !!

there's a saying that we use on the job that I do:

Anytime baby !!

Wow, that is some service. I read these boards a lot and have learned a lot from all the questions that Evan answered. I got my BC6 from a different online seller and almost feel guilty each time I learn something from Evan.
