So there I am on my 2nd tank. Trying to fine tune the engines low speed needle. So I decide to try and get her airborne. Give it some throttle and it starts to spin up. Throttle down and go make another needle adjustment. Start to spool up and suddenly the heli stops responding to control input. WTF?!?!? I just put some batteries in for the receiver!
So there's Tiny spinning her blades at low speed and I'm standing there staring at her wondering why she isn't listening to my control inputs. So I walk up to her and what do I find? One of the batteries had somehow popped out of the receiver pack!!
So now what? A full tank but not control... I tried to lean over the mains and push down on the top of the head to slow it enough to be able to quickly reach down and snatch out the fuel line from the carb. No good, damn little engine has alot of torque. So I figured: Let me grab it by the tail and tip it forward so pickup in the header tank sucks air and the engine will finally die. WRONGOOO!! So there I am sitting on the ground trying to think of a way to stop this thing. Then the idea of picking it up off the ground by the tail and hoping it'll starve out. Then another idea... slide my leg under the mains and use my foot to plug the exhaust!!!
Lifted the tail a bit, slid my foot under the mains and plugged the muffler.... DIDN'T WORK!!! The exhaust was escaping through the ridges on my sneaker. Then I took my sneaker off and did it again with just my sock on. This time it worked but I nearly burned my poor toe.
Moral of the story.... Make sure your battery pack are seccured before flying. If that had happened while the heli was airbone..... oOoh the carnage.
