View Full Version : Multiplex LN-5014 Charging Lead Acid Problem

Along with charging my Lipos, I also use my Multiplex to charge the Lead battery for my son's electric Jeep. It has always worked just fine for this.

My neighbor just bought a used electric jeep (and uses the exact same battery as mine), but it didn't come with any charger. I offered to charge it for him, but the Multiplex won't have anything to do with his battery.

The battery is a Fisher Price, 12V, 9.5Ah, Lead Acid. It's resting voltage is 4.25V. I'm trying to charge at 1 Amp, and it immediately indicates going to 14V, and the charger stops.

I'm guessing the battery is toast? Am I correct, or is there something I can try to revive the battery?

Thanks!
Jason

There is a possibility its a high resistance connection between the charger and the battery. Other then that, odds are you're correct, it's toast.

Any Pb at such a low voltage is surely dead. The rapid voltage rise on charging would indicate a 'short' inside the battery (caused by the sulphation growing from one plate to the next).

My guess anyway!

OK, I figured it was probably dead. Just wanted to confirm before giving up on it.

Thanks,
