Hi Gents
Not had much to report for a while, but I tried out my FlyCamOneV2 today. Video is a bit long but it is a full battery minus a bit in the middle. I cut it out because it was just sat on the grass with the lens blocked out for a good minute or so, whilst I checked something, plus I had to get the video down to 10 minutes for youtube requirements.
I'm a bit agrieved with the picture wobble caused by interference. I have the camera as far back as I can to maximise the separation from the ESC etc, but it is not far enough.
I think I will try making a screen out of foil, bonded to the battery ground. Don't know if it will work, but I will give it a try.

Great vid, Andy, very impressive, and quality is pretty good too. Have never been in a copter that doesn't shake anyway!!!!!!!!!

I've just never been in one! Must give it a try. I'll post another one if I can make successful screen. Thinking of making it out of a foil takeaway tray and bonding it to the battery. Don't know if it will help but I want to try as I'm sure it could be much better without the wow, wow wobble.

Can you post a pic of your current vid/cam installation on yous copter, Sutty, please?

Yes, will do. Might be tomorrow now, it is a little late. I'm up early tomorrow.

I believe the wobble is due to a rigid fixation on the frame, try it with a foam in between the frame and cam so that the vibration don't pass to the lens/ccd

Hi Ber60, Thanks for the suggestion. It is mounted on foam, and in my original mounting position, near the front of the heli, it was far worse. I will try a video with it in my hand, next to the electronics, to see the result, that should clarify if it is interference or vibration. Thanks for getting me thinking along sensible lines, because the front mounting position is much better and if I can use it I would be far happier. Anyway, I'm off to bed now, good night one and all.

Great video Andy thanks
Grounded foil works pretty well at shielding guitar electrics! but I does look like it may be mechanical vibration, still really good vid

I went out and bought this very camera because i figured the small camera i had tried was just junk causing this much interferance.... I too was very VERY! upset when even putting this camera all the way on the boom that it still got interferance.
I tried the foil deal, so much so i even wrapped the camera in it... it helped a little but nothing on what i wanted in terms of picture quality (Fuzzy even without interferrance/vibration), turns out it worked no better than my 5 in 1 DVR i used to use, which is 1/2 the weight and 1/3 the size.
Best of luck to you , think these things work best on Planks..
I'm right now pricing out a FPV (First Person View) so i can fly with goggles as if i'm in the heli/plane, at least those Camera's are high resolution. Gonna get my stuff from HobbyWireless.

And if you don't post a video of that being done from your rooftop, nobody'll talk to you ever again!!!! :rolling

Thats the nature of the beast my friend :) same goes for servo's kicking the bucket during flight, nothing we can do about that.

Here are the pictures of the install as requested. I did have a much simpler install near the front but there was much more interference/vibration. In this position the velcro is fixed to a small plastic plate which in turn is fixed to the rear skid using two small self tapping screws. As you can see the assembly sits lower than the skids, but on grass this presented no problems. Of course this would be no good for takeoff or landing on a hard surface.
If I can't improve matters I may have to resort to fixing it to a plank and running round the garden, as suggested by Dierwolf.

Dierwolf, I looked into first person a little while ago, and it was very expensive. I imagine it will have come down considerably now though. Will you start a topic when you have some more information please.
From what I read, the people who had been experimenting with this describe it as being much more difficult to fly than one might at first expect. I think you would need a buddy box so someone could keep an eye on the procedings in a normal RC manner. I can imagine if you lost the horizon it could be very difficult to keep your bearings. You might even find yourself upside down without even noticing.
Sounds like a good fun project though, so I look forward to hearing more if you'll keep us posted on your progress.

Actually..
Total newbs having big problems with foward flight and orientation in heli's report its Much Much easier to fly the heli that way as you can tell exactly whats going on from the horizon.
A good kit with 3km range costs between 200 and 300 dollars, thats not bad for the experience you get out of it.
There is one guy in particular on this very forum that could nto fly his heli properly at all and now flys around everywhere with it as soon as he got the FPV .
Search for FPV and his thread will pop up.

This is the Most popular unit selling right now, 3km distance 900mhz (which works a little better than 2.4 as its not as dependent on line of site) This is from www.rangevideo.com
Aerial Video System 900MHz 500mW KX171
Starting at: $275.00

The expensive part comes if you want to use goggles.... i wount be using this, i will be using a 10 inch monitor that costs like 55 dollars on Amazon to view where i am flying like the guy is using in the youtube video i posted.
If and when i find a cheap pair of goggles i'll get one but its not necessary.

Oh btw, i am going to set this up on the Esmart along with FMA's Co-Pilot :)
but this all fits perfect in a 450 size heli as well.

here is a page with a setup in a 450 size heli... kinda nasty the way he did it (In my oppinion) but hey whatever works :)

Is there any lense adjustment possible, can you have a narrower angle without doing it digitaly?

Thanks Dierwolf great info. Well yes I realise it will help with orientation issues, that much is clear, First Person and all that, but on reading the info on the link you provided the guy suggests that it reminded him of when he first started with helicopters. Get your cheque book ready as he put it. 300 bucks doesn't sound too much for the setup though does it. Worth a dabble I reckon. I'll have a more detailed examination of the information at the weekend when I have more time. Thanks for taking the time to post the info. Cheers, Sutty.

Yes, there are different lenses available from narrow to wide angle lenses, the one in that last vido is fisheye, kinda sucks if you ask me wide angle is much better and preferred.
additional lenses are like 20 bucks.
