I just purchased an Ion X2 and almost finished building it.

I currently had 1 set 10s Evo (4350mah) , I am going to do sport flying with this set.
I am going to buy another set 12s Evo (4350mah) or Thunder Tiger (undecided), I am going to do hard 3D with this set.

Welcome for your opinions before I ordered.
Here is my current setup
V-Blade 700mm
V-Blade Tail
JR8717 @ 6V Cyclic
JR7703D and 8900G for my tail
Motor: Actro 32-3
ESC: HV110
Gear Ratio: 11.62 for 12S and 9.81 for 10S

Thanks

Tram,

Looks like a good setup. I assume your tail blades are 105mm ones? I personally think that the 690 V's are a better match (lower amp draw and more agile cyclics) with the Ion-x than 700's, but I'm sure your 700's will work fine.

Also, hope you have better luck with your HV110 esc than I did. I never could get the gov to work very well but maybe I just did not fiddle with it enough. I'm currently using a PowerJazz and this is a much better, and simpler esc imop.

Good luck and cheers,
TomC

Tram,

The Kontronik PowerJazz esc is much bigger and good for +100 amps and 15s. Lots of info on these, just do a few searches. Again, if you already have a hv110, I'm sure you can make this work ok for up to 12s. If you have not bought an esc yet, I recommend that you consider the PowerJazz.

Cheers,
Tom C

Thank you TomC, I have not purchased ESC and Motor yet! Tim at MA told me Actro 32-3 will be avaible in about two more weeks. I just done some research on ESC and I think the PowerJazz is the winner. I found two different type of PowerJazz which one do you recomend.

Kontronik Power Jazz 63V Brushless ESC 120A (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXSDV4&P=6) $399

Kontronik Jazz 55-10-32 Brushless ESC 55A (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHYK6&P=6) $269

Thanks

Tram,

The most expensive one of course! This is the only real PowerJazz. The other Jazz is only good for 10s and are not very good (too low amp limit) for 10s ion-x's. There are some new Kontronik Jive ~85 amp escs comming out that will do 12s but I do not know anything about them right now.

Cheers,
Tom C

Thank TomC for your input

Here are my updated power setup
V-Blade 700mm
V-Blade Tail
JR8717 @ 6V Cyclic (Fromeco Reguator)
JR7703D and 8900G for my tail
Motor: Actro 32-3

I got everything on list except ESC and Motor.

It's hard to find actro 32-3 in stock now, I guess I have to wait for couple more weeks.

Tram,

Looks like FX has Actro 32-3's in stock, the 5mm and 8mm shaft. Ask MA which one is best for you.

Hello, I'd definitely go for the 8mm shaft version along with a 22t motor pulley (easy on the belt); that's what I'm using right now. MA and others have reported having failures with 5mm shaft Actros in the Ion.

You'll love the PowerJazz, it is smooth as silk :).

I just talk to Tim at MA, He said I should go with HV 110, PowerJazz is too heavy. I am totally confusing now. In my past experience, I always buy cheap and always end up resale it and buy the expensive one. I think I am going with PowerJazz this time at Towerhobbies for 399-30(on sale)=$370.

I am running the 110HV with the Actro 32-3 on a 10S and all works perfectly fine. This was per Tim's recommendation. He also sent me the gears for this set-up. I am very happy with it. I bought the CC Link also and the software programs the HV110 very easily with my laptop thought the usb connecction. I wouldn't spend the extra money.

My plan is to run 12s Evo (4350mha) on my Ion X2, My flying style is just like chachin's video. does PowerJazz really much better than HV110?

I just talk to fxaeromodels.com to buy an Actro 32-3 (8mm Shaft) for $379. I was trying to convince her that at heliproz and MA sell it for $340. She told me her Actro 32-3 is Maf version and current money in japan is getting more expensive now comparing to US dollar. Any Ideas on Actro 32-3 Maf version?

Tram,

I've used a HV110 on my Ion-x about a year ago. I think that the PowerJazz is worth the extra money since it is so smooth, easy to set up, and the gov is rock solid (better than the hv110 imop). The higher 15s specs give you the option to try +12s later as well. The extra ~100g weight is not really an issue with the Ion imop. The PowerJazz also has built-in spark suppression so you do not get any sparks when hooking up your battery packs. You will also need to buy a Jazz programing card (~$30) since the PowerJazz cannot be stick programed.

The new Actro 32 Max version motors are supposed to be ~5% more efficient due to improvements in the motor winds. I though the extra $40 was worth it and just bought an Actro 32-4 Max from FX to try 15s.

TomC

I just purchased HV 110 for $180 and Actro 32-3 Max version (8mm shaft) today. I am going with HV 110 for now until I saved enough money I will updated to PowerZazz later. I would like to thank you all for opinions Especially TomC. I will video my first fly when I am done building it. I can't wait anymore.

Tram,

I'm sure you will be fine with the HV110. There were some very good HV110/Actro 32-3 setup tips that Clintstone posted a while ago. These worked about the best imop. The thread is at;

www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=22058&highlight=hv110+set

Good luck and we look forward to hearing how it all goes.

TomC
