Sup everyone, I am from Salt Lake Ut. I am not new to the R/C world, electric or nitro however I am new to the Heli world. I just got an Elite 400 3D, its pretty kewl but I cant even get it off the ground yet! I dont know if I should give it full stick and see it lifts straight up?

What do you have for a pitch in degrees at full stick and at half stick?

I'm not familiar with the heli, but let's start here... What radio do you have, a stock radio (that comes with the heli)?

Get a sim! When you know what to do on the sim, put training gear on the heli and do Radd's.

Good luck!

Yea, I have the stock radio, spektrum’s DX6i 2.4GHz DSM2 6-Channel computer programmable transmitter and factory-installed AR6100e Microlite receiver. Honestly, I dont really know what the pitch is set at, everything is still set at stock.

8th and 9th the sim, its the only way to learn to fly without costing you a fortune, especially with ur heli...

Also check out the blade 400 setup videos in the b400 thread. that should give you some idea of how these things work.

Bettter controler than I have. I'm a newbe as well, moved up from a CX2 to a Hurricane 550. I don't really think I can help much but I'll try. Read how to program the ESC, mine is odd, first stick full up wait for music, then down then up again. Then when u do get it to spin up, u'll be scared. I destroyed mine, did get to fly it a few times though. What really freaked me out and still does is that when the motor kicks in, I painic. Like someone on here said "they are basicly flying lawnmowers". U don't realize that until those blades r spinning at 2400 rmp in front of U.

Congrats on your E-Flite Blade 400 3D. If you have never flown, I whole heartedly agree in the SIM approach.. Real Flight or Phoenix would be my personal suggestions. Radd's school http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html is a good starting point as well. You might also want to google for a local RC Heli club to see if someone there would be give you a hand. I'm sure that there will be.
Not yet mentioned - make or get some training gear. Avoid popping it up initially as it will eventually have to come back down- somehow. .

As others have said, get a little experience on the sim, if you go that way, before you try it for real. If you decide to use RADD's, http://www.dream-models.com/eco/flying-index.html , the approach has worked in the past. I would guess that the local RC club would also be a great way to receive help.

The simple answer to your question:
In normal mode, the Blade should start lifting off at or slightly above 1/2 way up on the collective- which is the left joystick. Most helis have a tendency to drift to the left as they start to lift off. Counter it with very slight movements on the right joysticks. Try to be behind the heli initially ( tail in ) till you learn the orientations. Anyways- very small movements- like millimeters - is what you want to practice. That goes for both sticks- until you get used to the controls.

Typical set-up on the radio/swash... The heli will lift off at 3/4 throttle and colective stick (5 to 6 degrees of positive blade pitch).
