Hey folks,
Another issue I need some advice on.
On the tail rotor system. When I adjust the belt I pull it tight s there is very little play on the end of the tail boom. By this I mean I can hardly pinch any slack on the belt. I doing so I find that the belt sits on the drive pulley properly. By this I mean the belts teeth fit properly into the grooves of the pulley.
However when I fly it does not run true. In other words if you bring the heli into a hover at a close range you can see that the belt has a slight wobble on the drive pulley. In Other words the belt has shifted some and does not mesh the pulley anymore. Also while thumbing the tail rotor blades around the movement seems to bind somewhere in the revoloution before it runs free again.
What do you think is causing this. The belt to move in the pulley and the difference in thumbing feel?
Kindly let me know
Thanks
D

Could be the tail bearings need replacement. If there's too much play radially in the bearings, you could get the behavior you described. One side of the pulley tighter on the belt than the other.

Or maybe the belt is worn.

As far as tightening your belt, you should make it as loose as possible just to the point where the belt doesn't strike the inside of the boom when shaking the boom side to side with your hands. (According to Finless in the Logo videos)

Hi,
Exactly what bearings are you referring to?
I will check the belt later this evening. tooth by tooth

The bearings on the tail shaft axis. But this is a slim chance. The more I think about it, my guess is you are overtightening the belt.
