View Full Version : Solution" Longer Tail Blades and Grips

I switched to K&B Tail blades with Align grips and hub.
Both are longer than stock so I had some problems landing on the uneven "high mountain desert" terrain.
I damaged one set of blades during a panic landing on what turned out to be small volcanic gravel on top of loose sand. The vibration of the tail worked it downwards and I wound up watching the heli spool down as the tail blades were getting chewed up.

So I came up with a simple tail stinger that holds the tail up and seems to be working just great.
It's just a yellow paperclip fashioned into a workable shape and size then wire wrapped and epoxied on the verticle tail fin.
Nothing mind bending here but thought I would share it.

Cool, I have always found my B400 seriously lacking in tail blade to ground clearance.

I wish I could fix mine with a paperclip, but I don't think thats gonna work. J/K:rolling

Wolf,

Did you sand down the roots of the Kand B blades? They are 1 mm thicker and do not go in the stock grips. I filed my grips out a little to get them in. I'm not terribly happy with the mod I did, but it works.
I was looking at maybe using the align grips for which these blades are designed.
I am unsure how the e-filte pitch slider would work with the align grips though.

I am curious as to would you did...

He's already running the Align grips and hub as well.

Is that the align pitch slider also?

I'm just trying to figure out how much of it I would have to buy to use with rest of the e-flite tail setup.

Or you can put on some 600 size skids - plenty of room on mine :)

I give it an A for creativity. Looks good too. Keep us posted on how well it holds up.

ericm,

Yes, I tried sanding the blades to fit the stock grips at first.
It worked but I found the blades were very sloppy in the grips and I didn't like that so I went with the Align tail holder (grips and hub).
Everything works fine but I did use the B400 longer balls, from the inner swashplate, to make everything line up better.
I got that idea from sparx.
No problems with the slider.

E-flite Linkage Balls EFLH1435
That's all you should need.

Wolf,

thanks so much.

I will pick the grips and hub up this weekend.

I have a spare swashplate, that I can rob the balls from.

Thanks for your help...
