ok heres the deal,I have a hawk pro (that I love)bought used, the previous owner did all the upgrades you
can think of(mechaical, not bling).......the .32 in it gets hot,no matter what I do to the needles. I have so far completely taken the motor apart, nothing in the way of blocking fuel flow, internals all looked much better than I expected!! I am at a loss here,I am going to upgrade to a .37,just not now,but I want to be able to continue to fly this bird without worrying about it cooking and falling from the sky.
here is what I've done so far
1.pulled motor apart,no obstructions to fuel flow
2. check fan and shroud, all intact
3.tried numerous needle settings,1 turn out to 4 turns out.
4.checked all fuel lines and tank,no leaks or obstructions

what it does.....
it fires up very easily ,has plenty of smoke ,when flying sounds "a touch" lean
touch button, too hot, cant keep finger on for any length of time
richen 1/4 turn,no change
1/4 more no change
and it goes on the same from there, with little to no change in temp....
any ideas..I'll try em'!!!!

thanks guy and girls.. hope to get this one sorted out

one more quicky, what all is involved in upgrading to a hyper .50?? comprehensive list if poss.
p.s. the more involved I get in this hobby the more I grow to appreciate this community, versus other
heli forrums out there. Here there is a definate feeling of genuine friendship and respect (there's always a few exceptions, but they normaly get put in their place pretty quickly.!) The otherr forums I've tried seem to be all about the sponsors and a iron fist policy, with out helifreak I am not sure if I would even still be in the hobby ,the otherr site made me question if I wanted to!!! hats off to all!!!!

well it could be alot of thing is ur 32 a abc piston or ring ? If abc they are more prone to heat and if over heated it looses compression fast. if a ring then it take a little longer. so first remove ur muffler and take a peak at the piston and see if it is scored also look 2 see if it has a ring look at the exhaust post od the sleeve for damage. if it is not the piston sheck ur bearings some times a un balanced fan can wear the crank bearing and start leaking air through the bearing and seal. also check muffler for broken baffles which will decrease muffler fuel pressure and lean out.

it is ringed, cylinder and piston looked good...no broken baffles..bearings seemed o.k. when I took it apart.
AAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!

yup that was the first thing I did...there was actually a page in the os manual telling you to check behind the needle assembly because "fiberous" material is known to collect there...

Try adding another shim under the head. It will reduce compression and some of the heat.

billbill you read my mind, I was at the lhs yesterday to see if they had any...I guess I could order them online...

hmmm, I've been keeping my fuel in my car lately, noticed the bottle swelled a few times, had no problems w/ my 600n and the same fuel, only a prob w/ the hawk.If it was the fuel I would expect to have a problem w/ both,or atleast notice a differance w/ both.

I fought a Traxas 2.5 for almost a year!! Finnally put a second head shim in and it ran smooth as glass...no more over heating...no more glow plugs dead!! It was so bad at one time I couldn't even run the truck with the body on it!

Store your fuel in the fridge! It keeps the moisture out of it (if you can get away with keeping it in the fridge)

What muffler are you running on it? Bet either your muffler is too small and restrictive and that is causing the motor to heat up even with the needle changes or your rubber exhaust diverter is choking it off more. The NEWER OS32 needed a bigger muffler than the original old motor did and if you get the NEW OS37 you'll even need the NEW correct Hatori muffler or a Curtis Muscle pipe for it.

My friend's heli had the same problem motor wouldn't run good so he got a Muscle pipe on RR and the motor purred.

You see now they are making the VOLUME in the mufflers bigger all the time ie. Hatori sb16 then sb17 then sb18 then sb19 now?? In the old days I think when Hatori came out we could have used a larger volume then too on the OSWC61 motor since everyone started using 30% nitro but it took a while for someone to figure this out I guess with the NEWER high powered 50 and 90 motors available today that like to BREATH with the big bore carbs on the intake they need to breath on the exhaust too just like drag cars do.

Skip the headshim not needed.

I see your point about the muffler, but the thing is this heli ran this setup for a-while w/ no problems...just all of a sudden.....................
