I had the stock servos on my Blade 400 and the gears stripped when I crashed (just as I had heard).....so, I upgraded to the Spektrum DSP75 servos. I crashed last weekend, and now they are stripped out too. I want the most bullet-proof, high performance servos I can get. Help me out here guys.... What are the ABSOLUTE BEST servos I can use to upgrade this heli? I want metal gears, ball bearings.....super strong, super fast and super tough!!! What do you guys think I should buy? I've checked out several, but I'm getting bogged-down in all the specs now. BTW....I don't just want a good name.....I don't even care if the best ones are fairly generic if someone has used them (Blue Bird metal gear/ball bearings)..... Help me out here fellow Helifreaks... I'm counting on you for this one. Pinecone??? Finless??? I'm all ears!!! Thanks!!! :noteworthy

65mgs are the best

the JR's center better
the hitec are faster at lower voltage and are cheaper

as for the tail so far the 3400G wins hands down
and the 401 is almost a must once you get deep in to this hobby

JR 285's on cyclic and JR 3400G on tail.

Ditto, except I put the metal gear sets in mine. If you really want beefy, the HS65MG's are definitely the way to go. They've got quite a bit more torque than the 285's, and metal gears. I've heard they're a really tight fit, though.

Hitec HS - 65mg are the best.

Metal Geared Hitec HS65MG simply because they cost less, are extremely hard to break and do an excellent job. The JR ds285 are great servos too, but add metal gears to them and they cost almot double of the Hitec.

Tail servos. the good ones: JR DS3400, Futaba 9650, Futaba 9257. The JR costs more.

This is a GREAT thread. I'm working out a "Must Have" list for my upcoming B400 purchase and now it looks like SERVOS are on the list. Thanks rnbiker (http://helifreak.com/member.php?u=45467) for starting this thread.

I do have one question though...(Since I don't have the B400).... why a different type of servo for the tail?

How MANY servos are in the B400 total?

Are Hitec interchangeable with the stock equipment on the B400?

Thanks in advance and hope this wasn't TOO Much of a HiJack :)

I've bought the metal gears - any tips on installing them?
Is it straight forward or do you have any tricks you care to share?

3400g on the tail. hs65mg's on cyclic. Thre 65's fit fine if you take them apart to and install the body from the back.

I put in the 65HB's, which are the 'karbonite' gears. 4 x stronger than the nylon (if you believe the sales pitch) and they are a tight fit. I modded the frame to get the two rear to fit smoothly, and if I strip them, I can just install the metal gears.

They centre very well, are a lot quieter than the stock and a damn site quicker too.

Central Hobbies I think it was has them for $20 in their online shop.

Did the same thing - 65HB -- great value and so far survived 2 major wrecks:thumbup:... no stripped gears!
I'll upgrade the internals to metal as soon as they strip.

Same here, 65HB. I did acutally strip one in a crash once. Instead of half-dozen broken teeth scattered around, I had one (1) tooth that just sort of folded over. Replaced the gears with the metal set.

Pretty straight forward stuff. Just make sure you take note of how the old gears fit in and don't get anything backwards. Use some of the white lithium grease on them, and you should be good to go.

If you browse through the finless video's he's got one on replacing the gears for a Hitec HB56, while not the same servo it's a good walkthrough you can use for any brand.

I've got DS285's on the cyclic and a 3400G on the tail with a GY401 gyro. Absolutely no complaints with this setup.

I have the hitec 65mg's in my T-rex...and the jr 285's in my B400...and both work very well. You really can't go wrong with either one. Happy Flying!
