Flew through four full packs tonight in our cul-de-sac without the slightest incident. Our cul-de-sac is a 160-foot, nearly flat circle; it's nearly ideal. The only way it could be better is if it were carpeted. There was plenty of breeze, too. I experimented tonight with tail gain (70% is right for my current, plastic-blades, training-wheels setup) and expo. Amped it first to 60, then down to zero, finally settled on 10, which a week ago was too sensitive but now feels right for the current setup.
So here I am, a newbie, learning with sensitive sticks on a quick helicopter in a breeze. And liking it.
The heli would gain and lose altitude in the breeze, unpredictably. This was educational. Several times it just took off -- fast -- across the court; I can definitely see how the accident happened the other night. This felt exactly the same, just a sudden surge. Startling and disorienting, because it's turning and rolling, too, all quickly, and it's climbed over my head, which brings orientation problems of its own. I'm sure the breeze was involved. But after last week's accident, I had some experience. Nerves, nerves, steady, steady, reign it in, bring it back, back, back, back, all the way back across the court. Whew. And keep it aloft; that was the fun part. I didn't set it down.
A good evening in heli-land. Thanks for the forum. You guys are great.
