View Full Version : Wish List - What do YOU want?
I was thinking it might be a good idea to start a thread for us 200 pilots to make a wish list of the parts we would like to see available to buy. Maybe get a thread going so that Gaui or other companies like K&T can see exactly what we want. The more people that ask for it then the more likely that someone will make it for us.
I'm gonna start with the following -
1. Carbon main blades. I'm still on my original set of plastics so I can't complain about those, but it would be nice to have more options. If someone was to make 200 pairs they'd sell out in no time.
2. New Battery mount. I went to the trouble of making this - http://www.helifreak.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=46433&d=1209257406 Again, if someone were to make something similar, maybe c/f, bolts straight in, I'd buy it. I'd rate this as the best mod / upgrade in performance terms I've done so far. You can move the battery back or forward to get good cg, the battery's closer to the rotor head which is desirable and I can use wider batterys now.
3. Titanium. Why is this material not used more on helis like this? The raw material couldn't cost much more since the parts are so small. And it's easier to cut and machine than steel. Ti washout arms and blade grips would be a good place to start but I doubt Gaui would make these. They'd lose a fortune if nobody bought alu washout arms again.
4. Tail Servo Linkage. When hovering, the 1.2mm steel rod is almost invisible due to the vibrations. And the plastic pitch lever looks like it came from a walkera. I'd bet there are plenty here who would pay for a c/f linkage and alu pitch lever.
If you would pay for the things I've listed then chime in. If theres something you would like to see then lets hear it. This is a great heli and Gaui are still making improvements - theres a good chance if we ask for it here we may see it on the 200 v2.

I'll take the CF blades and the TI parts please. Battery tray is already done. There's several version (home made) ideas in these threads.
My only real complaint at the moment is the weak and I mean WEAK cnc see-saw arms. I mean come on Gaui, cnc parts break before platic links????

I am with Buzz on better see saw arms is at the top of the list.
I like your suggestion with a Billet Tail control arm the plastic gotta go.
CF blades Yes especially if Curtis Youngblood Radix (now i am dreaming)
The True blood Urethane Dampeners (second on list)
Maybe a even better main gear in fact one that will allow tail to spin free so we can attempt autos more seriously with out thinking of suicide.
1.4 MM screw packs plus nuts can also use to tag down ball links more secure to servo arms (first on list with see saw arm)
hardened tail shaft with more precise Cog maybe metal
hardened Main shaft
some scale bodies to mix it up. the Heli artist airwolf is on my list to order once i get mechs worked out.
so maybe if possible tiny whiny retracts for that.
as far as tail control rod I have new Gaui one with brass ball link so far on bench is great, once i tweaked it. but have not flown it yet to see how it is. so cannot comment yet. but if it doesn't work. I would think that will be on the wish list.
thats about it. I think Gaui Has added some cool stuff lately
so they are doing a great job. the only part i don't have yet is the CNC swash plate guide and the shaft drive.
last but not least a easy open wallet. :YeaBaby:
I think ill pass on Titanium

Man there is always room for improvement, but that is not to say that because there are a lot of mods and wishes, that it isn't a great machine. I too agree that seesaw should be redesigned, cheap and easy to replace parts should give, and expensive as well as hard to replace parts should not be giving first. I guess I'd like a better CG layout, better tail etc. I am now back on stock tail and stock tail linkage, which is working out well, but bits and pieces seem to fail over time, sooner than I had hope for. But man I love this heli as is, wishing for more is almost hard to ask :) I guess the thing that I'd wished the most for, is actually for the gaui 200 to be more popular.... which means parts will be easier to get, better competitive pricing, and aftermarket parts :)

"CF blades Yes especially if Curtis Youngblood Radix (now i am dreaming) "
I already E mailed Radix, to ask about Gaui size carbon blades,-- reply was in the negative .... :(

Fudd, good to see i'm not the only one screaming for change and i think between you and choppersuey, most immediate problems have been covered :)
Longer bolts is a good idea... and being able to buy a selection of M1.4 bolts as a spare part is a great idea. I have the same feelings on replaceing the servo ball links screw with a nut and bolt - a self tapping screw into horns this thin is not a good idea.. its almost a safety issue that Gaui needs to address!
Not sure what you mean about Ti is easier to machine, depends on the which steel alloy you go for?? I worked for a company a while ago that made speed/torque probes for jet turbine engines... Ti is good but to put it in perspective you have to change the CNC tool/tip so much more often on Ti than steel, the difference in machining costs of ali and Ti is orders of magnitude! Having said that, i'm convinced that Gaui could still make a Ti mixing arm and a profit for $16. The other option would be to beef up the design.
The final thing i would like is an alloy steel tail servo mount from K&T... the Ali one is good to start with, but.... I was adjusting the belt tension this morning and knocked the servo slightly, so decided to set the LGS-3100 up again. When i loosened the bolts on the servo mount, i got a tiny Ali heli coil out, glued to the bolt with Loctite.. and a fairly smooth hole in the servo mount:shock: Looks like i'm gunna have to buy an M2 tap this afternoon and rethread the holes!!

Like I said Now I am Dreaming. :)
I think Radix would never be interested, unless the 200 Gets to 450 sales levels. which it might be very possible.

Ti, Carbon, better skills, not neccesarily in that order....

Carbon Fiber main blades would definitely be on my list, as well as a better battery mount, although there are many options for you to make one for yourself right now.
A better tail is on my list, but not very high on the list because the stock tail works just fine for what I'm doing. True Blood dampeners are high on my list as well.
Stronger see-saw arms would be a good idea, but I haven't had a problem with them yet, so I can't really comment.
A better tail servo mount is definitely high on my list. The stock one leaves you with very little options as far as what servos you can use.
Definitely a better main gear that drives the tail in an auto. That's one thing that really makes me wonder what Gaui was thinking when they made the decision to have to main gear not drive the tail in an auto.
CG wasn't really a problem with my setup so it's not on my list.
One thing that I definitely don't need, but would like to see, was a few alternate motors for the Gaui by people like Medusa and Scorpion. I know that's probably out of the question, but it would definitely be nice to be able to try a couple different things. There is a couple alternatives at Flying Hobby (http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=18_76&products_id=2313) by Z-power, check it out. If you go over to the side menu bar, and go back to the first page of the brushless motor section, there is another motor that has less kV than the stock motor, is designed for use with a 3S 11.1V battery. Just a thought :). BTW, has anyone here used any alternative motors in their Gaui? Here's my list in order from wanted most to wanted least:
1. Better main gear
2. True Blood Dampeners
3. Better battery mount
4. Carbon Fiber main blades
5. Better tail servo mount
6. Stronger see-saw arms
7. More motor choices
8. Redesigned tail

what do i want?
more women that dig this heli.
more stability(whatever that might entail)
cf landing gear as stock
lighter main blades
what do i want?
more women that dig this heli.
You mean you've actually found some women that dig it? Respect is due :noteworthy.
Wanna see my sixteen inch chopper :YeaBaby: fnarr
On a more serious note, how about a black cf version?

Hey how about a swash leveler for Gaui 200
I machined this one on manual machine. but someone with a CNC could make a bunch.
anyway i don't think i need the cutouts takes to long to index on mill.

I'd like to add canopies and fuselages. I'm a canopy junkie, I love having different canopies. It's a quick way to make your heli feel new :) There are lots of canopies that can work with the 200, but it would be nice to have more options of canopies made especially for it without mods and worrying about fit. And I'd also love to have fuselage options, but not expensive fiberglass.... with the way I crash, I'd want something that isn't so scale and expensive that I'm afraid to fly. Light weight fuse choices without worrying about mods and fit would be nice :)

I'll 2nd that!!
On another note... many of you have mentioned the see saw arms as a part needing improvement. I haven't got much time on my Gaui yet and was wondering what the main problem is with the see saw arms?

Honestly I'd love to see a Better Canopy as my number 1 issue. the stock fiberglass one cracks so easily that I'm not even going to bother replacing it till I find something better.
A better Tail control linkage the kit i have didn't come with a support brace for the linkage, but did see on ready heli that they make one now.
I have had the tail pitch arms come off in minor crashes if the motor is still up on RPM and thinking eventually they'll wear out from being snapped back into place over and over again.
Not sure why but I added the CF landing gear and now the heli is rediculiously to fast for me. ended up recking my reciever after crashing into a chair (what I get for trying to fly in my living room and not having my 2nd battery strap on)
also stronger bolts every time I crash I bend the Blade grip bolts I know I shouldn't complain - cause a bag of 10 is only $1.25 but still I go through them very fast.
I do give props though that almost all the bolts are the same size which makes it easier to do repairs.
Other then that I'm still debating on if I want to go to the torque tube driven tail or not.
And I think regardless of what they do Autoing this thing is pretty much pointless. ever time I've tried it comes down like a rock. So I don't even bother any more.

There are a couple different canopies available: like this (http://www.readyheli.com/203167_FRP_Painted_Canopy_B_Type_Gaui_Hurricane_p/203167.htm) one.

I would really like my heli to stop vibrating.....
Can't seem to find the cause.
Fly on....

Even half a gram diff on the main blades spells major vibes in the tail.
