View Full Version : Corkscrewing in flips

I am having a problem doing tight flips with the little 200 (the reason for jesus bolt question). Consistantly when I do a flip the heli seems to be rolling to its left. Happening too fast to see if it is the cyclic or collective imput that is doing it. I think it starts with the cyclic. Sometimes it gets over to its side and then a split second later hits the ground :) I do not think it is my fingers as I do not get this issue with my T-rex. I cannot see any left or right cyclic being added with elevator stick movement when I look at the swashplate.
Otherwise the bird flies fine and is very smooth.
Anyone experience the same? Any ideas on why this would happen?
Thanks,
Stuart

Sorry I don't have an answer for you... I don't notice it rolling to one side in flips, but I do find it MUCH more difficult to flip compared to a trex, it seems to have a mind of its own.... I have not been able to figure out why or how it is harder to do them, I think it's just a stability issue, but I haven't noticed the "roll". I was carefully looking at my flip videos to see if it has a tendency to roll, and it doesn't seem like it, but it is rather ugly and all over the place. I too can do it pretty well on bigger helis, but it's just a big handful on the gaui, so I mainly just fly around in normal on the little guy.
There is a post about the heli tilting left in ff: http://helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=64558 sounds like a related issue? Do you have this rolling issue other than flips? Sorry I know this isn't much help, but I don't know what the issue could be.

i don't have mine dialed in enough to try and flip it. it would be like committing suicide

Here is a video of my ugly flips.... it doesn't look like it's rolling in the flips, but it's no where near stationary lol :) I've crashed a couple of times doing flips, but I don't recall it ever rolling, just bad collective on my part.

I think it's just a stability issue,
Would longer blades make it more stable? I'm curious about the effect of different sized blades. Anyone experiment with this?

couldn't go much bigger. are there any available?

I'd like to see some flips without using negative pitch :D
p.s. there is a thread on different sized blade somewhere here, please use search.

Not so sure about the bigger blades... I think i'll let others try it first.. would 255mm be just too big?

I just measured the length of one main blade, and I got about 190mm, so I think that 255mm would just be too big, but I've been wrong before ;). Anyone else got any ideas?

I found these cf blades made by MS that are 227mm long. I'm just not exactly sure which measurement tells you the width of the blade at the grips. Is it the root measurement? I'm really tempted to try them though. Does anybody know if these will work, or at least come close? It looks like the gaps in our gaui grips are about 3mm tall by about 7mm wide and about 5-6mm from the center of the bolt to the back of the grip (inside the blade slot). What do you think?

Go for it! Let us know how you like 'em!

I don't think they will work without modding, because of the 4mm root thickness. I wish they would work though. The webpage states they are for a piccolo, what the hell is that?

...2mm Bolt hole is good... As Jet says the 4mm root is a problem and the chord looks much bigger!! You might get some ideas from this link for cut down Hornet Blades:

Unledd you have something like an End Mill its gunna be really tough to get a good mod on the blades or blade grips. Best solution would be to mill the grips bigger and then use these as stock blades if they are good.
The gap between the main and tail blades at the closest point is about 20mm. The gaui blades are 200mm tip to tip so you would have at least 7mm overlap. Even If you got the blades to fit the grips they would still hit the tail blades sooner or later .
If you can find 200 - 220mm carbon blades with a 3mm root I'll buy them. I thought gaui would be making them by now.

I would buy them too, and I also thought Gaui would be making them by now, but they were too busy building their crappy 450 sized heli . Should've just enlarged the 200 .

One day we will all have our carbon blades

What about weight?
Will carbon blades not be too heavy for that little head?
(Not mine, the Gaui's - dude!) :smokin:
