View Full Version : What's the extra channel for?

So the stock Belt Tx is a 6 channel, but there are only 5 channels in use on the Rx.
The #5 channel and one marked B are open.
Does the gyro switch signal one of these?

The gyro switch operates channel 5. The "B" slot is for a receiver battery or other power source.

Cool.
Am I right in thinking that the gyro switch doesn't do anything on the stock Belt?
If so I could use the gyro switch for Nav lites, or retracts, or even dropping water balloons as Taz mentioned in another post. :)

Exactly... Without a HH gyro, what you have there is a free controllable channel, ready to accept whatever fiendish contraption your misguided talent can produce :YeaBaby:

Even with the headhold gryo you can use that channel... reason being if you leave the signal wire off of channel 5 from teh HH Gyro it leaves the HH Gyro in HH mode.

So they keep telling me, but mine just refused to initialize. Connecting the wire to the ground pin seems to put it in heading hold mode while leaving the gain pot operational, though.
At this price, there are probably no two identical gyros off the assembly line... ;)

I am so hacked off with the oiddities of setting up the pEsky HH with a Spektrum DX6i that I have gone back to the original rate only!!!!!!!!!!!! Unlike the commercial, "it does not do exactly what it says on the tin"!!!!!!!!!
Maybe it's me....Maybe it's a dud gyro....Maybe it's the DX6i....Maybe a combo.....
Who knows, but I do care to know!!!!!

Don't give up - it ended up as trial and error on the DX7 too, but I eventually tamed mine running it off a switch with the travel set to +62 / -47%. One of the keys seemed to be making servo throw pretty minimal - at extreme deflection, the servo can just about reach the mechanical limits of the tail system. Anywhere else it was straight from Wagland to Piro City.

After reading the sticky on BEC's and as a DX6i is on my upgrade path I have just ordered a Hobbywing 3amp UBEC. If I have followed the Finless BEC 101 video correctly I should be able to plug the UBEC in any spare channel in my receiver including the "B" channel. Can anyone see a problem with this? I could also use the HH Gyro channel as I don't have one right now.
Thanks.

No - any unused channel will do. Might as well use the "B" though - that's what it's for.
Just remember to disable your ESC's built-in BEC. All you need to do is cut the middle wire on the throttle channel. A neat (and reversible) way to do it is to slide the pin out of the connector and fold the wire back. Secure with tape so it doesn't make contact with anything and you're done.
