Hello guys.. I have a raptor 30v2..... OS 32 SXH.... I leaned a bit the engine in order to have enough power to do loops, rolls and go inverted, it was really cool, I thought the raptor 30 v2 with that engine wouldn't be capable but IT IS!!!!! It was so cool!!! I am using 15% coolpower nitro

Of course, it misses power! I have to take some forward speed and be high to do it confortably, anyway. after flying, the temperature of the engine is 155degrees Farenheit.... is that too hot???? I think so, but If I richen it, then I don't have enough power in the engine and it's more risky to go inverted and roll, I know, get a OS37 or get a raptor 50, it's among my plans in a short future but for now.... is 155F too much???? or I can have a couple of flights once in a while under that temp?????

Thanks!

That actually pretty cool...the loops and the temp. I believe most internal combustion engines (not just RC) are engineered to run in the 185 to 220 deg F range.

Out of curiosity, where on the engine was this temp measured and what with?

mmmmmmmmmmm, are you sure about that man??????

it was measure with a little device to measure temp in helis (I don't know the name), so it said 155F, my friends who have helis (they have 50 sizes), they said the normal should be about 110F..... actually I was abe to keep my finger on the backplate (this is where the temperature was measured) for about 4-5 seconds, no more......

Pretty sure. I think they were saying normal is 110 deg C which is 230 deg F.

The finger test you mentioned sounds about right. I bet that puts your head temp right up near the 195 - 205 deg F area.

FYI...you should be measuring the temp on the hottest portion of the engine which is the head. If possible, I think you should reposition the temp sensor as close as possible to the engines combustion chamber (the remaining space in the head when the piston is at TDC). A good place is on the top of the head on the down wind side of the glow plug (opposite side from fan). Some heads like OS's 50 Hyper have fins which allow you to slide a temp sensor in from the side (or bottom as the engine would be mounted, down wind side of the engine).

I didn't know that, thanks a lot, we were measuring the temperature on the backplate, I guess it's cooler there..... I would like to know exactly the right spot to measure that, I attached a picture, do you mean I have to put the infra-thermometer there???? next to the glow plug between between the heat sink (I think you call like that the little fins)??? or where exactly?

Forjer is right on, you use the temp sensor on the hottest part of the engine, but the finger test is on the back plate. Temp of an internal combustion engine is over 185F but for our helis should not exceed apx 220F. Think of this for an analogy, your cars thermostat does not open till 185F.

I don't see the pic, but it sounds like you have the right idea on the hot-spot. Here's a couple pics showing sensor placements...the 1st is of a Thunder Tiger 39 with a "standard" head, the rest are of my 50 with the Hyper head. I have 2 sensors in the 50, one for a Carb Smart which is on the side of the compression chamber, and one for an eLogger which is on top of the combustion chamber next to the spark plug. I have verified the eLogger's temp against a Multi-Meter which measures temp and they were within 1 deg. The Carb Smart has been set to 90 deg C (194 deg F) and the logged temps have been anywhere from 193 - 200 deg F.

ups, I forgot to upload the picture but never mind... the TT39 is similar to the OS32 on the head, I know where now, thanks, I'll check it out next time, just some curiosity, It wasn't my termometer, it was a friend's and we measured the backplate temp which was 155F.... I don't know until when I'll have access to his termomether again, does anyone know if 155F on the backplate is good or is it too hot?????
