The 430L is a lower kv motor. He is most likely getting around 2900-3000rpm.

I am curious stroker, have you ever flew a 450 heli at 2500-2700 rpm? Servos make a difference yes, but not as dramtic as you make it out.

So 25-2700 is your recommended head speed? what to you suggest as a tach, so I can measure mine? LHS had some but said they were not good for heli's (not sure what that means) I dont trust anything they say anymore.

That depends on where you are in the learning stages. If you are hovering I would stick to the 2500rpm. If you are doing some Forward Flight, loops and rolls, then 2700. If you are starting into 3D, then 2800-2900 works well. This is how I have my heli setup. I have those three RPM ranges programmed into my TX. Or if you really want to crack the 3d, go over 3000, but you need to have the right equipment. IMHO, over 2800rpm, you need to evaluate your heli and equipment.

There are numerous tachs out there. I use this one.
