Anybody happen to know a portable generator that can charge *directly* a 12V car battery? (that is, no external 110ACV to 12VDC charger required).

Some can, although not very well. It's more of a feature that you would use as a last resort means to get your car started, not so much for weekly charging. The 12VDC output of most generators is not regulated like it would be in a 110V AC car battery charger.
If you want more info, call Honda's tech support and ask them about that feature on the EU1000i generator.
