Decided to attach a Canon A560 to the bottom of the L500 and see how it would perform. Just used some carpet padding for vibration isolation and it works fairly well. Since this was a first for me, the turns were a little fast for on-board video and a bit more expo would probably soften up some of the transitions.

Next time I'll take it higher, faster, and do a little bit of 3D along with wider flights around the perimeter of the field now that I know that camera stays securely attached. This is only 300 yards from my house.

THIS was a kick ass video, GREAT VIDEO, i like it. Looks like you need some water on that dried out grass tho..

Thanks! They just mowed the weeds out two weeks ago so it has that fresh straw look but it does get really dry by the end of the summer. Hopefully my next video flight will be on a sunny day.

GREAT video Bruce - nice and smooth and great scenery - don't think the lack of 3D detracted from it at all - gee well trained kid and pooch - wish mine stood patiently on the flight line like that !

Great video Bruce:clappp Nice flying spot too:thumbup:

Please post a pic of how you mounted the camera when you have a chance.

Ha ha, that is one of the few times I could get my son to come out with me and it was only because he was curious about how the filming would look. Since hes not so keen on the helicopter I got an E-flite Taylorcraft airplane that he has interest in. The dog was on a leash but he gets about 2-3 walks a day around that area so he is comfortable just standing there.

Here are a few of the picts. Basically just took an old wood blade, drilled some holes in it to attach to the struct, glued some carpet padding to it, attached a camera with zip ties, and sandwiched another layer between the bottom of the frame and top of camera. Also, covering the mic with padding helped muffle the wind noise.

Man, that was cool, Bruce.\!

Fort sure the best on-board vid I ever have seen!

Thanks. You should see this one from Fogger. It was kind of my inspiration.

In mine, I trimmed out a few parts of 3D where the camera was only looking at the sky like in an inverted tail-down funnel - doesn't work for on-board video. I think some big loops, inverted forward flight, death spirals, spinning dives, and aileron tic-tocs might look cool. Maybe I'll even dive down some of the ravines on the next one and fly the whole perimeter.

It seems I get used to flying in one direction and forget that I can turn around and fly the whole area.

I'm going to try this as I have a similar Canon camera. I like your music choice too.

Wow that vid looked great off of that P&S camera. I like the smooth stuff in OBV otherwise you start to get sick watching it. The ravine dives would be cool.

I love the little dog sitting there watching. Would love to see some vids of you flying over the space to the left of the pilot.

Thanks Ken.

I got my T450 back together after mowing the field yesterday. Just the flybar, feathering shaft, main shaft and tail blades got wasted and I had all the spare parts. Seems to fly better now after some general needed maintenance. See you out at lunch sometime.

HFG, those ravines off to the left of where I was standing are where I plan to dive down on the next flight. This weekend is supposed to be nice weather so I should get another chance.

Now that I plan on flying further out it might be a good time to do a full range test with my DX7 / AR9000. I think I can safely see the model from 1/4 - 1/3+ mile but I worry about range. I'm guessing the DSM2 with my combo should be good for a mile or more.
Anybody done any range testing?

Took some more on board video footage this weekend with better weather and visibility. Posted in the main forum section.

Another nice video Bruce.. makes me glad I live in SB.

I decided to give it a try myself and built up a camera mount for my Trex 450. I was amazed how much power the Trex has.. lifted the entire rig like it wasn't even there.

It was fun and educational putting the videos together with all the cross fades and timing to music (Sony Vegas Movie Studio - Platinum).

A few times it was getting a bit too high and made me nervous but at least there was a long way to recover if needed. I was planning on trying some ravine diving but couldn't get a clear line of sight down so didn't want to risk losing the signal and driving it into the scrub brush.

In the main forum thread I mentioned that I'll limit my flying to the lower altitudes now since I don't want to upset the neighbors and get my flying privileges taken away - the blade chop can definitely be heard at my house.

This was a quick experiment that worked out fairly well but I'll get back to my regularly scheduled sessions.

Awesome - really nice job Bruce - love it. Have to out now to my beach park and sneak a quick video before the fun police notice someone enjoying themselves ~
