I have a new toxic 231 setup on a gv-1 for a headspeed of 1750. Spcetra G heli, 28-1 lawnboy mix, needles both at 1.5. The motor ran fine for the first five minutes. I shut down to adjust the idle on the radio and started back up and the motor screams way past 1750. So disengaged the gov and set the throttle curve real low and same thing. I thought ok its going lean check the filter in the tank. I removed the filter and same problem motor ignores throtle curve and gos up to 2000 head speed.
This is the same problem I had with the hanson that I just pulled out.
I have another carb to try next. 643

Try richening the High end needle up until that stops happening. You either have an air leak, or the top end is way lean. How far open the needle is does not really matter, just keep opening up the needle until the over-speed is under control (or find the air leak if there is one).
Hope this helps!!

Even if you swapped out the whole engine setup (complete with carb), I'd still lean toward Johns suggestions but it still could be your GV-1 has an internal heating problem that caused it to do that. I'd try another GV-1 if there's nothing apparent on the leaking deal.
If you mounted both carbs to the engine, check that the spacer between the engine and carb is not cracked from being tightened TOO much. If you did crack one you could do a 2nd just as easy. ;) Plus it's easy to check it first.

Disconnect your GV-1 completely and test again.

Turns out it was a bad servo that would go up to full throttle as the motor ramped up. Must have been caused by the vibes. I couldnt believe what I was seeing as the motor spooled up without the canopy on. The servo was really eratic even though I could bring it back to idle. Futaba digital 3151. I replaced it with an old hitec and all is good.

Glad to hear you got it sorted out.

Oww! Watch out for the "old" Hitec servo, there has been MANY instances of these failing due to vibration (ask me how I know!). The new Hitec digitals seem not to have the same problems as the older ones.

Even better, stick with the Futaba 9202 as it's a good match for the GV-1 and it's a very reliable servo in the long run.
