Hi,

I've just picked up a DX7 and I have a Bantam BC-6. The stock DX7 charger (110v) is no use Down Under so I was going to cut the end off, solder on some banana plugs and use my BC6 to charge it. I've read about keeping the current down (around 0.2A) and the caution of the Spektrum/JR reverse polarity thing.

If I make the said cable (banana plug to DC jack), could I discharge the DX7 battery as well? - is there something internal in the DX7 that would blow? Why would a 3A fuse blow anyway if charged - at even up to 1A?

The other option is to take the battery out every time and make a cable for the JST type connector - but that's a bit cumbersome.

Any clues?

Just turn it on and leave it overnight to discharge every so often.

I do it enough by accident to not worry about cycling.

Yes you can. Every 6-7 charges, I discharge down to 8.8V, @ 0.4 Amps... I read somewhere many years ago that RX/TX packs should not be discharged below 1.1V / cell.

Prior to having a good charger that could cycle, I would just leave the TX on. The problem with that is that you should keep an eye on the voltage to avoid over-discharging the Nimh.

Yes, you can buy the female end of the JR white connector. I built one, haven't used it yet. I just open up the rear cover to dissipate heat and charge @ 0.4 Amps, 0.5 mv Delta-V.
