I'm told that you build a 3d capable turbine. Are there any videos of one doing HARD 3d? I've seen only one video, not doing exactly what I'd call hard 3d, more like some flips and rolls than anything else. Haven't seen a tictoc.

How much power does the turbine put out?

I'd like to get one if they can out 3d some of the 90's...

You should have seen Szabo flying Greg's at IRCHA last year. :YeaBaby::shock::OK Not sure if anyone got it on video though.

Outdoing a 90 will be difficult (yea right!:) ), your talking a much lighter weight bird.

You do have to compare apples to apples. Our Turbine is capable of performing more 3D than anything to date, at least as far as I have seen. Is that due to design or Brass ones by the pilot, well, I leave that up to you. It is generally more smooth 3D, more graceful than the pitch pumping of a blinged out, hyped up 90, but it is capable of the manuevres.

There are a couple of guys in England, Ian (coolice) and Bell Bloke, as well as Bob Johnson, who I have seen video of doing 3D, and do a very good job, so they may take me to task on this, but when there are numerous AVERAGE guys out there doing there very best 3D type of flying with our Turbine, that means a lot to me.

Got so excited about the tic-toc, I missed the question about power.

Wren states 8 Hp at 160,000 RPM. Now I have to say I have my Turbine MAX RPM lowered to 137,000 RPM, and I have to confess that every download I have done to my Turbine has shown that it never reaches 137,000 RPM, even when in Idle up doing a sustained "Launch Takeoff"! The most I have seen in a download was 129,000 RPM.

How does this answer your question? The Wren has more power than you need to do any aerobatics you would want to accomplish. So instead of running it full out, we limit the power to what is actually needed, and conserve fuel by doing so!!

The Intrepid Turbine carries 44 oz of fuel onboard, and typically fly for 12-15 minutes.

Now, let's see...about Christmas time I should be ready to buy myself a nice, new, shiny toy. Which model would you recommend?

Oh, BTW, I think I want max rpm's.:smokin: Too much power is addictive.

Too much power can be as bad as too little.......:)

Your certainly welcome to keep the Max RPM at 160,000. The only difference you will notice is a 5 minute flight time.......

You might also notice some changes to the airframe ... every flier we know who has actually tried to use full RPM has had an airframe failure because it couldn't cope with that amount of power. Admittedly, none of these failures was a Bergen - have you ever tried full power, Chris?

Only in the Industrial setups, where we are using a double clutch and double main gear to handle the power. We also are using 1/8" G10 frames in Industrial Birds vs .093 in the "Hobby" models.

That's wise. Bob Johnson, one of the top UK show fliers, tried taking the RPM up above 140,000 on his Robbe Cuatro and I believe he stripped the main gear.

In a contest between airframe and Wren turbine engine, the airframe usually gives up before the engine does...

Just for giggles, what kind of torque does the '54 put out with that 8hp??
