Hi
Thought its not a bad day little breeze but nothing serious. So went to a local cricket field as it was nice an quiet. Took of into the wind nice and easy. Had to keep the nose down as it kept getting thrown higher in the air. Did my first circle all the way around me. Then thought lets do 360 degrees on the spot about 30feet high. Went suprisingly well. So I thought lets have a go at flying towards myself. So turn 180 degrees but my brain cant have engaged the right gear  and I just looked at it while it faced me. Then the wind caught it and threw it on an angle towards the ground. I quickly applied rudder but dam its a fast rudder and I over shot the 180 degrees need. So now I was sideways on. So I tryed the rudder again. This time getting it so the tail was facing me. Now I was about 8 feet and falling fast. BANG to late no chance to level out so I dumped the throttle.
Well damage take a look!!

DAMAGE
Main Shaft, Flybar, Main Gear Stripped, Main Blades Snapped, 1 Servo nacked, Frame Snapped,
Feathering Shaft, Canopy Mount Lost, NEW Fibreglass Canopy Smashed Alittle.
Looks like another DTS frame bites the dust. All fracture points where around the places you have to cut for the DTS mod. Well I will have to order the HDX Superframe. Makes me think I dont think I will put my nice new Radix blades on until this crashing business stops

Damn... I was kinda hoping to be wrong about the DTS mod's effect on survivability. Real sorry to see all that work go down the drain - but hey, at least we have another perfect excuse to get the Superframe STK. :(

True

Only problem is having to wait for it to arrive:thumbdown:

Sick of stripping main gears as well. Gone through 3 in a month. Must be my bad flying:arggg:

In collaboration with Gerd to get some superframes on order.

Think you were trying too much for one flight mate :(

Am talking to Gerd about making some ally DTS brackets for his web site, similar to the ones on my belt, but with improved dimensions, these make the frame stronger not weaker:thumbup:

Just ordered a HDX Superframe. Cost me about £40:thumbdown: Suppose its not to bad. Just need to order all the other parts now. Cant seem to work out if you need another type of swashplate for this frame. Im sure on Helidirect it says you need a Trex swashplate when using this for a Belt CP.

Anyone got this frame? Will all my parts fit straight on?

Thanks for any advice

Andy

Link me up on that frame lemme try and help... really cant see spending 40 pounds on a frame alone when you get get an entire exi for 99 buck... but ja your not in the US so would be more on your end.

Only place I could find it. Postage was $25 Only option I could pic.

Think in the long run it will be worth it. Hopefully it wont need replacing. The fact you can buy a side or bottom may mean I dont ever need to buy the entire frame again. Plus DTS already done etc

Definatly says you need a Trex or HDX swashplate for this fram. Says it on helidirect if you selct the superframe.

Wonder if the main gear and tail gear will fit?

It uses the standard T-Rex swashplate layout - so you need to change the outer balls and servo links to get the rear ball/pin (pinball? :) ).

You'll also need the $14 gear set. I don't think you can make the standard Esky size gears work with this frame.

Mika do I need one that is for 120ccpm or 90ccpm. Also i have seen another heli when I was searching the net with white gears on not the std blue ones. Would have thought with alittle modding should be able to make gears fit?

The only thing I can see is that the bottome gear appears to have a longer shaft. Maybe a case that I need the bottom gear but not the top. TBH im not sure.

Would this work?

Gears need to work out if I need to order or if it will work or can make to work?

Thx

Hi Andy
Saw your mishap and it seems to my we are spending more time repairing the heli than flying it but hey that is what our hobby is about.

Hi Ber

Thought I would just go for it today and the wind got me:oops:

Does seem that way yes. But the way I see it is if Im affraid to fly because I think I will crash then there is no point to flying. So may as well try to fly and crash than not fly and dont crash if you understand :YeaBaby:

You need a 120-degree swashplate, Andy. That looks like the Microheli 120 CCPM Deluxe... It will certainly work, but the HDX/3DX seems every bit as good for only $25. I have both, and I almost like the HDX better.

The main gear has a 6 mm larger diameter than Esky, totally different sleeve arrangement between the main and tail gears, and you need the gear set anyway for the tail drive gear. Save yourself a headache and get the $14 set... It's still cheaper than the Esky CF frame upgrade :)

Will do thx Mika.

Will get the Swashplate you said.

Cant find the swash you are on about. Trying to order everything from helidirect. Is it on there?

Oh, hey, and links! You need a T-Rex/HDX/3DX link rod set to go between the servos and swashplate. I don't think you get any with the upgrade frame.

You should be able to recycle your inner balls on the new swashplate to fit your head to the swashplate. The thread seems to be the same as Esky.

Edit: Just saw your post - it's here (http://www.helidirect.com/product_info.php?cPath=38_234_250&products_id=865) in HDX parts at $29.99.

HD seems to be out of the frames at the moment, though. Try cnchelicopter - you can use any of the other frame styles too if you like them better.

Ok so Im spending a fortune:shock:

Ordered the frame
The gear set
The linkage set
A set of main shafts
And the swashplate you said.

Is that all I need?

Postage hurts;)

All I can think of... but remember it's past 2 AM over here :)

Anybody care to confirm? So far we have the frame, the links from servos to swashplate, the swashplate itself, the Esky balls for the inner swashplate, plus compatible gears (I checked, and it's the total set with the one-way bearing sleeve). I think that should about cover it.

Just spent £88 in total. Hope thats the last of my major spending. Its starting to really damage my bank:YeaBaby:

All I can do now is wait.

In the mean while if you think of anything I will need to fix please let me know.

Thx for all the help.

you sure after buying all the seperate bits its not more economical to just get teh Exi???

Also you should try cnchelicopter.com he carries all the HDX / 3DX Stuff and for dirt cheap as well as good price on shipping to the UK..

Wait.. Ronnie's gonna end up using the same Esky head setup after spending that much??? Sorry but i believe thats a waste, the head is the most important part to a really good flying heli, frame is 2nd.. Jimmy rigging the swash balls to put on a esky head just doenst do it for me :) but to each his own i guess.

80 pounds for a swash and frame is alot.

Well, he already has an upgrade head... But admittedly if that happened to me I would probably sell the purple bits and spend some extra on this (http://www.cnchelicopter.com/servlet/the-883/%28AAAHOT%29-Trex-eccpm-frame/Detail) deal. Or maybe a CopterX kit.
