woohoo!!! my order has been placed.. :banana:cheers:Bang

ordered this from flying-hobby
http://flying-hobby.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=3_30_36&products_id=2171 and had them change the motor to the Z20a980 (picked the fast shipping too)

plus I placed an order with Readyheli.. a couple pinions, 20T OWB, 50T gear, some Trex 600 landing gear.. and these http://www.readyheli.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=CHP-G012

that was a quick 15 minutes to spend over $1000 but it'll be more than worth it :D hopefully I'll have everything within a week.

Now you can put all the good info to use......and will be hovering in no time....

I'm sure it has been more frustrating for you than us, since we were having all the fun like with the the ^$^%$ BUSH & the @#$% SPIDER...

Take your time and enjoy the journey Grasshopper....

Again, congrats...I'm sure you'll enjoy it...you might want to buy a set of "el cheepo" wooden blades unitl you feel really comfortable...

well.. I kind of have been flying a 550 for months... on heli-x :D now I have been flying my 450 since February so I'm not a complete newbie.. but I have no doubts that when I spin the hurri for the first time I'll be in awe of the sheer size and power..

now to get in more sim time while I wait for parts and my heli :D

Actually it might be so easy flying a "bigger" heli you'll wonder why you didn't do it sooner.

I flew a Zoom, then Revo, and the Revo is so squirrley I don't even want to fly it any more....it's just not much fun fighting it all the time....plus it's so darn hard to see..

You'll be like a duck to water....but your right the first time you really crank it up it's intimidating....then after that you'll want "more headspeed".....!!

going from a very touchy BlackHawk 450 (with a crap radio and crap gyro) to a H550 with Dx7 will be have to be better.. and yes, I probably will wonder why I didn't go to this first..well.. I know why... I got the BlackHawk to make sure this was a hobby I really wanted... and for $369 it was a good heli.. and even though it's touchy (could be tamed with a good radio) I knew from the first hover that I was hooked...

My first comments flying mine were it flies a lot different than my Blade 400. It's a lot definitely more solid. I have flown this size heli before, but it's been so long I forgot what it was like.

I flew my 550 initially with 550 woodies, until I realized I had the short tail. The picture in your link is the CFS kit, same as mine, so it probably has the short tail too. I have the long tail and 550 CF blades which I may try down the road just to see what the differences are.

I think you'll definitely enjoy it. Even with all the problems, I still really like they way mine flies.

I flew my 550 Sunday with the winds out of the south at 15 gusting to 22 mph and the Hurri handled it very well, but, I quit after five minutes while I was still ahead.:)
I've been flying smaller heli's for two and half years, but, nothing has matched the stability and flight characteristics of this bird.

Yes, this heli is great in the wind and even when the gusts get more severe, it's still easily controllable.

got my order from readyheli.. thanks for the fast shipping!!

14T pinion.... check
15T pinion.... check
50T front gear.... check
20T OWB.... check
CHP offset adapters... check
Trex 600 landing gear... check and those things are HUGE compared to my little 450

still waiting on Fung to ship my heli and radio... but with the recent earth quake in China, even though it wasn't in the Hong Kong area, has got to have some sort of effect on everything there.. so I can wait patiently.. last I heard it was 15000 dead and rising

At least the Chinese were quick to get in and start sorting it out unlike those bastards in Burma or whatever they call it now.

I got an email from Fung...my heli will ship today or tomorrow.. forgot that they assemble and test fly each RTF heli.. of course, I plan on taking it all apart and making sure it's assembled correctly once i get it..

Why take it apart? Its not like its broken, we all eventually will take it apart for repairs. Just make sure there is loc-tite on screws and go fly!

mysticmead
05-16-2008, 02:26 PM
well... in the process of checking the screws for loctite... it'll come apart :D besides, I like to know how things go together and make sure it's setup right.. I'm sure flying hobby does a good job for assembling helis.. but lets just call it a bit of OCD on my part...

my last heli I did the fly now take apart later bit... and it cost me time money and frustration because the factory used CA on tiny screws making a metal to metal contact. had they used loctite instead, the screws wouldn't have broken at the head leaving me with a useless part.

Taking things apart is half the fun.....and you know how it works......and these things are massed produced and don't get the TLC we wold give it....

My motto is "If aint broke, it might be after I take it apart, but I'm having fun"..

Nice mysticmead :banana, question regarding the gears you bought; why do you need them?

Ordered a 550 last week, hopefully I'll have it next week :cheers Here's the setup:
M1110 Motor
50A ESC
HP 42T/61T
500mm CF blades
3xFutaba S9252
Futaba Gy401 & S9254
2xKongPower 3S 3200mAH

the reason I ordered the gears that I did was to make sure I had the gearing options I wanted. with the 50T front gear and the 15T pinion or 14T pinion I'll keep my head speed down to 2000or below.. which is a good thing for longer flights and not blowing the plastic grips apart. if I want to get real long flights, I can run the 15T pinion and 50T front on the Z20-980 and turn on the governor.. that should keep the head speed around 1600

later if I feel that I need more speed, I can always swap the front gear and have a boot in speed
