Checking temp on TT .39

For those of you guys that dont use on board temps gauges, where do you take a temp reading with your infared temp gun on a thunder tiger 39? On the block heat sink just under where the head bolts on or on the smooth part of the block just above the engine mounting bolts right where the TT logo is? You get two totally different readings between the two spots, higher temp where the heat sink is and lower on the smooth part of the block

i do my temp reading just under the head on the bottom, especially with the engine running, the fan blowing air over the head can throw off your readings because the head is being cooled at the same time
