I just got Phoenix and have a couple comments / questions;

I'd like to be able to change the way the camera follows the bird but this does not seem
to be changeable, unless I'm missing something it looks like the only thing you can
modify is the speed the camera follows ?

Is there no way to keep it zoomed out a bit more and keep the ground in view? That is a
pretty major problem really because if all you see is sky it get's very disorientating.

The first thing I noticed is that helis catch on the grass and tip over way too easy, which
is annoying but I can live with it.

From what I can see there do not seem to be any user customised aircraft like you can
get for RF G3 /4 ? All I see on their website are aircraft created by the Phoenix company.

I would always advise emailing these type of comments to the guys at Phoenix. They respond very well and you might just find some of your ideas included in the next version.

But in answer to your questions. You can turn autozoom on or off from the View menu. Also, you can set your own zoom by scrolling your mouse wheel.

The grass thing actually makes you a better pilot especially for auto-rotations.

Yep, at the moment all models are made by Phoenix but again, if you have a specific request you could try emailing them with it.

If you photograph your own model as described on their website, they might even make you a custom model.

Rumors have been floating around that an aircraft creator (not just a painter) is due to be released.....sometime.

Yeah, it's much better with the autozoom turned off and the zoom all the way out. At first it didn't seem to do anything whether I had autozoom on or off. I also downloaded the update from version f to version i.

The grass catching thing, on the one hand you might be right but the other solution is that if you just let the heli drop a foot or so it doesn't tip over and it hits the grass as if it were foam padded even with a big 90 size bird, and that is not really good, soooo swings and roundabouts I suppose.

well, I just upgraded to the 1.05j version and either the grass friction thing is improved or perhaps I'm just getting used to it now because it does not seem to be near as touchy.

The cool thing is that it reacts very differently from one surface to another whereas RF G3.5 just ignores the surface and reacts the same whether it is tarmac or grass etc.

With the camera follow set to 10 (slowest) and zoomed all the way out with autozoom off it feels OK. At first the default settings were making me dizzy.

Phoenix is very different to alot of the other sims out there, and coming from one of them you might take a little time to adjust - though once you have you won't want to go back.

I can hardly wait, I have my dx7 ready to go and 1 phoenix flight simulator that has been sitting at NY customs for 4 days now. They really need a US distributor. I wonder if I could get them in bulk and sell them on Ebay. hmmm
